The Story

Searching for love in your twenties can feel like the Wild West of dating.
Messing around with Archie, and in love with Becks, Meredith finds herself at an impasse the night of Becks' birthday party. As tensions rise, a bar fight breaks out. Meredith learns romantic idealization SUCKS in the end. She must make the difficult decision to stop self-abandonment and accept the harsh truth of her relationships and ultimately, herself. ATPP is a short tale of love and loss, and how we move on from things outside of our control.
Four Dodgers fans, three glittery cowboys, and one horse walk into a tiki bar... you've heard this one before, I can tell.
"I've been drawn to camp, commentary, and dark comedy as a lens to tell relational stories about young women's lives. Similar to John Grady Cole's arc of betrayal and rage in Cormac McCarthy's All the Pretty Horses, Meredith will learn her own version of betrayal and disappointment. She will walk alone at the end of the film, accepting a difficult new perspective. This is based on a true story - the bar fight happened, and I felt small and powerless. This film is about reclaiming agency in the aftermath. "

Being a woman in the film industry is exhausting in quiet, familiar ways—you’re expected to be agreeable, grateful, and easy, and stories about women’s anger, desire, and messiness are still treated as risky. At the same time, I’ve been in queer relationships while not always feeling accepted as queer, which can be deeply isolating. I spent a long time letting other people define me, shrinking parts of myself after being told—explicitly or not—that I wasn’t enough.
This film comes from that place. From rejection, self-abandonment, and the fantasy that if you just try harder or stay longer, love will finally work. Right now, dating feels transactional, intimacy feels fragile, and many of us are navigating desire without real safety or clarity. All The Pretty Punches is about the moment when that illusion breaks—and the painful, necessary realization that being wrong for someone doesn’t mean you’re wrong altogether.
I’m making this film now because I’m done softening the truth to make it palatable. I want to tell a story that makes space for anger, longing, humor, and clarity—especially for people who don’t often see themselves centered on screen. By donating, you’re not just helping fund a short film; you’re backing a female-led, queer project that believes messy stories are worth telling loudly. If this resonates with you, I hope you’ll help me bring it to life.

"Don't ever fall in love, okay?"
Romantically lit, modern Los Angeles Western—anamorphic or shot digitally with vintage glass—using splashes of color in a dark bar to contrast idealism against external violence. Glittery cowboy hats slash through a mundane backdrop, creating nostalgia inside a contemporary dating landscape. The film embraces messiness and disorientation, where violence carries a strange beauty—two women, faces bloody, laughing together. I want the viewer to feel like they are there with their own eyes - all the human error with it.
Young people are cynical about love. Ultimately, cynicism is the great mask of the disappointed and betrayed heart." - bell hooks
This film is for the disappointed and betrayed; how we can find ourselves, step forward, and move on, alone.
I’m drawing from Love Lies Bleeding for its queer, quiet western energy—desire and danger that feel lived-in and intimate—and from All the Pretty Horses for betrayal, rage, and the collapse of romantic fantasy, leaving Meredith changed and alone. Bodies Bodies Bodies inspires the chaos, dark humor, and camp—the collisions, the momentum, the way pain and laughter coexist. Triangle of Sadness for its irreverent, darkly comedic tone. Together, these references shape a film that’s raw, messy, and kinetic: funny, tender, and brutal, building toward a reckoning that isn’t the bar fight itself, but what Meredith finally sees about herself and her relationships.
We are currently in Pre Production for this film. We plan to shoot in the spring and have the film finished in time for fall festivals. Your support goes directly to paying cast, our beautiful crew, and our post production expenses to get this film past the finish line.
Where's all the money going?

Cast: The amazing humans bringing the story to life.
Crafty & Catering: Snacks and meals to keep everyone fueled (and happy).
Crew: The behind-the-scenes heroes making it all happen.
Composer: Crafting the soundtrack that sticks in your head.
Post Sound: All the beeps, booms, and whispers you’ll hear.
Camera Package: The fancy toys that make everything look good.
Film Festivals: Covers submission costs to show the film off to the world.
Editor: The person who turns hours of chaos into a story.
G&E (Grip & Electric): Lights, rigs, and gear to make the set shine.
