The Story

The short film is set in a post-apocalypse Los Angeles 100 years after a tragic biochemical war. We follow Zoe. A government scientist was tasked to investigate the abandoned house of the Ito-Reyes family where strange disturbances have occurred. As she walks through this house, more clues unravel the hidden pain and lack of vulnerability that made it challenging for this family.

We are planning on creating a 4min animated film which our incredible character designers spent so much time developing what the characters would look like in the story, and the cell animators/compositors brought it to life.

I made this film because representation matters to me so much. Not only are there two strong queer moms as the leads, but they are an Asian couple—one with their own set of problems, dreams, and aspirations. I also wanted to comment on how it can be challenging to share vulnerably especially coming from an Asian family. You don't want to burden anyone.
Representation has become an essential part of my life because being seen can make a difference in your life. It gives you hope. It provides acknowledgment that you literally can do anything. This film showcases diverse points of view and inclusion, and we also brought that representation with the cast and crew, all women and gender-expansive humans. Here is a short creator video of the fantastic people involved in this project.
What did we learn through this process? Through this process of inclusivity and diversity in the team, we felt a connection that left us wanting to strive to do better for our community and our craft. We got to see what we are capable of as creatives that we can not only create this beautiful art together but also show us what our industry is lacking. Women and gender-expansive lead teams and stories.

What do we hope to raise?
We hope to raise funds $21,000 through the audience on Seed and Spark to cover the minimum 4 min animated film costs. We are animators, designers, illustrators, and producers that have been in the Motion Design industry for 15+ years of experience that are passionate about bringing this project to life.
The project's current status is that we have a trailer and some preproduction done, which includes character design/development, script, and the overall look and feel of the film.
Where will the money go?
When it comes to animation, we diligently plan every piece of the process: from the preproduction with storyboards, the design of the characters, the backgrounds, animating frame by frame (yes like the good ol' Disney days) then after we have animated the scenes someone needs to put it together so we will need a compositor. As you may know, films without sound or music don't make a film, so we will also need a composer and sound designer/mixer. Each character will be recorded by POC voice actors who will make the animations grounded actors that represent them on screen.
Where do additional funds go?
Additional funds will send this film to festivals, marketing, and getting our name out there. When we say representation matters, we genuinely mean it.
