A 29-year old Suburbanite from Ahwatukee, Arizona still living with his parents must navigate his new normal following a massive head injury. We are asking for your assistance as we unite AZ Musicians, Dancers, Actors, and Filmmakers to tell a powerful story of isolation, alienation, and community.

Mission Statement

This film serves as a confrontation of privilege and isolation, rooted in my suburban Arizona upbringing. Paired with the voices of many, our mission is to tell a bold, unrelenting story by confronting our own racial identities and the suburbs which made us with sharp humor, and fearless artistry.

The Story

Two decades after the Green family

walked away from South Phoenix $25 million richer...

Cory Green has spent the majority of his life inside a gigantic house in the suburbs of Ahwatukee, Arizona.

He is now 29 years old, and still hanging onto the last remnants of his youth.

He has never held a job, never went to college, and still lives with his parents - Calvin and Dr. Robyn Green.

They are the only Black family in their neighborhood.

We are glad you asked!

One day, while in his backyard, Cory is struck in the head by a STRAY GOLF BALL.

Upon waking up, Cory learns that his entire life is now at risk of breaking out into a song and dance musical number. These "episodes" are marked by infectious earworms, and a flashmob of 11 dancers.

Nobody can see them.

Nobody can hear them.

 Only Cory can.

For the first time in Cory's life, he must reckon with that fact he is completely alone.

This is the part where I tell you how I really feel:

This project is NOT being made out of spite.

In fact, I come from a great love for the place I grew up in. I am incredibly thankful for my 12 years in Ahwatukee and from what I witnessed, as it prepared me for the world outside.

No matter where we are from - I feel we all exist in our own bubble.

For Tukee we have, as a community, witnessed that bubble burst several times.

To me, this film is important to create and share amongst my Phoenix community to help bring an understanding, and create dialogue which may begin a greater healing as Ahwatukee continues to grow larger and more wonderfully diverse.

Our cast and crew is comprised of a racially diverse team who feel the same way:

White people who grew up not relating to their peers

Black people who have felt completely alone

Hispanic people who struggle to find community

and Indigenous people who have long felt ignored.

It is time to burst the bubble again, and like Cory - force ourselves to make a choice:

What will YOU acknowledge to begin helping your community come closer together?

We are seeking $10,000 to bring our Short Film to Life

Our priorities are to ensure our Movement Artists are compensated first, followed by our Actors.

After that, there is our Food/Crafty.

(we have 6 lunch dates total for 30+ people)

Then, we have our Transportation as we will carry gear from LA to Phoenix by truck.

This will be for two consecutive weekends.

Lastly, our leftover finances will be used for any petty cash expenses

and eventual festival submissions.

Even if you are unable to contribute financially, at this time you can still help make AM I REALLY BY MYSELF? a smashing success in several ways!

Please share this campaign with friends, family, and anyone who has love for Phoenix.

We are also welcoming all who hold an appreciation for both traditional and untraditional musicals.

And finally - anyone who enjoys a good film which rocks the boat, this one is for you.

Thank you so much!

About This Team

Director

Fueled by daily discussions regarding the human body and mortality, David's films explore existential topics fueled by real events of his adolescence (8TH GRADE), as well as a desire to create commonality between all subjects explored; regardless of emotional, mental, and/or physical states of being (DYSMORPHIA).

David continues to drive his films with a boldness to undertake untraditional production choices for his stories, such as utilizing puppets to tell a story about death and grief (TATTERS) and a traditional musical format in expressing alienation from the outside world with AM I REALLY BY MYSELF?
