The Story
At some random NYC rooftop party, Tilly, a newly cut-off transplant who is out of touch with the world, tries to grasp on to what little she has left. What starts as a fun night of gossip, tequila sodas and needed time with her friend Noah, immediately comes to a halt when they realize they do not have the one thing they need: a drunk cig. Their search for a cigarette leads them straight to Tilly's arch nemesis, Aspire, the ultimate "nepo cunt" as Tilly puts it.
Through blunt dialogue and escalating absurdity, the night goes from bad to worse: fake wokeness, old grudges, and the illusion of the American dream all collide in a shocking, yet darkly comedic fall from grace.
American spirit is a satire about privilege, status, and perspective. It begs us all to ask the question, who has what it takes to aspire to greatness?

American Spirit is not just an entertaining and thought provoking story, it also is an incredible milestone for Magnolia and Friends. The director of American Spirit founded Magnolia and Friends to create opportunities for the talented young artists around her. In the (American) spirit of being blunt, let's just say the truth: It is hard to break into the entertainment industry. How can we expect the future generation of creators to aspire to more when they do not have the resources to even start? That is where Magnolia and Friends comes in. Our cast and crew are composed of creatives who are just getting started in the industry. From this film, we gain real hands-on experience and connections that will last us a lifetime. This film is more than a passion project: It is the start of collaboration by artists for artists.
Where we are now:
We are wrapping up pre-production planning and moving into filming in the next couple weeks. What we need now is funding to bring this project to life.
