Mission Statement

From gender identity to politics, truth is subjective. Women in particular are often subject to labels and judgement based upon false fact. As a filmmaker, I aim to create stories with strong female characters that go against these lies, and build women up instead of tear them down.

The Story

An Honest Lie is a darkly comedic look on truth in an futuristic society that garners all of their answers from Truth Kiosks. It's gonna be 9 -11 minutes of universal themes, unique production design and some comedy thrown in just for fun:)

BEHIND THE STORY

(Like those behind the scenes specials on HBO, but not as good...)
You may be wondering some things such as Who, What, When, Where and Why? Here we go!

WHY -  I want to make this film because everyone, at some point in their lives, has asked a question and gotten a lie for an answer. Whether it was to spare their feelings or if it is unintentional, sometimes you just want to know the truth so you can fix whatever it was you were asking about. I'm making this movie partly because I'm in a quarter life crisis but mainly because I value truth over everything (besides chocolate, of course.) and believe that this film has the potiential to make everyone question what truth really is.

WHO - Kelsey Wilkins aka Director/Writer/Actress/Lactose Intolerant

I'm a filmmaker based out of Pittsburgh who loves to create genre blending and semi-politically based films.  The first film I ever made, a commentary on the 2008 economic crisis, (Affect; The Second Great Depression) actually allowed me to put my double BFA in Screenwriting and Acting to good use, and I've been trying to make films ever since.
If you want to take a gander at some of my other work, click here!

Oh and Hanna Vogel,  an amazingly talented actress/friend based out of NYC is going to be portraying Charlotte Harper!! HONESTLY, she's great.

WHAT - mov·ie : a story or event recorded by a camera as a set of moving images and shown in a theater or on television; a motion picture.

But it's much more than that! it's an expression of my weird self and I am really excited for you to contribute to that. If you want. You don't have too. But, I would really appreaciate it...

WHEN - July 2019! (That's the plan according to my proposal I gave to a bunch of people, so let's try and do that.)

WHERE - Pittsburgh! We're keepin' it local because we want to foster smaller film industries and crews, but also because it is cheaper...

AT THE END OF THE DAY!
You've been through alot to get to this point in the campaign and we really appreciate it! At the end of the day, we hope to bring this film to you and as many people as possible through diverse film festivals and local screenings where you can buy popcorn and just have a good time :)

Full Story Synopsis:

Charlotte Harper is  twenty something with no friends, no job and no prospects.  Going to one of the truth kiosks , she is told that the reason her life sucks so bad is that she is fat, ugly and stupid. A nifty feature of these kiosks is that it actually gives you some suggestions how how to fix yourself. All it would take is $350,000 in higher education and plastic surgery. Dead broke, she selects the Alternate Solutions button on the kiosk and is saddled with a drastic last measure; Suicide. On her way home, Charlotte comes upon a  woman with similar results standing on the edge of a bridge. Together they contemplate their new found truth and decided whether they should jump or not.
