Mission Statement

On the surface, & Other Concerns is a story about four 30+ women who must break out of an impossible-to-crack escape room. But it’s actually an exploration of the universality of feeling trapped by life’s circumstances and what we all need to do to feel free. These are the stories that beguile us.

The Story

& Other Concerns - A Short Film

“...I was struggling to fall asleep one night in 2019…My doubts, fears, anxieties and worries were so loud that night. I knew I wasn’t the only one on this nightly merry-go-round, so I turned those thoughts into a play.” - writer/creator Lauren Greenwood

& Other Concerns is based on the original play, An Atlas, A Necktie & Other Concerns, which had 11 performances over three festivals back in 2019. It starred the same exceptional cast: Blythe Haynes, Myrthin Stagg, Chantel Winters and Yvonne Addai. It won awards and, more importantly, the hearts of hundreds and hundreds of audience members. They cackled. They sobbed. They raved about it. We quickly realized that we'd created a show that really resonated with people... and even with government funders! (more on that later...)

So, What's & Other Concerns About?

Elizabeth, 33, exhausted and overstretched, finds herself trapped with her three closest friends in a mysterious escape room. She wants to get out as quickly as possible but, now that she can’t escape, they use the chance to open cans of worms Elizabeth would prefer to leave hermetically sealed. As she wades deeper into the riddles, the room itself starts to take on a surreal life of its own. And the room is NOT happy. They all need to focus and work together if they are going to survive.

We Shot the Thing!

Remember when I said that even government funders loved this project? Well, they $50,000 loved it. The Canada Council for the Arts gave us a grant to film the project, which we did in June 2022.

You Got $50,000... Why Do You Need MORE?

$50,000 is a boatload of cash, it's true, but in the expensive world of film, $50,000 is... not a lot... This is how we spent that money...

  • Cast & Crew: $34,260
  • Production Design: $1,126
  • Equipment Rentals: $3,024
  • Wardrobe: $340
  • Location Rentals: $4,867
  • Craft & Catering: $3,441
  • Insurance: $1,130
  • Transportation: $1,812

We knew it was going to require a lot of strategic stretching to make $50,000 work for the project. Here's some of the creative ways we saved $$$ during production...

  • Painting the set ourselves - with some sibling help! (Thank you Spencer Haynes!)
  • Getting supplies donated -- thank you, Benjamin Moore, Bennett Tools and Upper Village Paint & Wallpaper!
  • Shooting in a prop warehouse -- shout out to Josh Turpin at Production Design Toronto in Hamilton.
  • Making snacks for the crew in the morning before we got to set

What was really important to us and where we refused to skimp was compensating the artists who helped us bring this film together. We want to continue this trend for our post-production costs, and that's why we need your support!

Help Us Finish this Film!

We always knew we'd need some outside help to finance the post-production. Our phenomenal director and editor, Sabina Lambert, has created an incredible cut of the film that we're buzzing about. All we need now is the funds to finance the finishing touches.

Your money will go towards...

  • Editing: $3,000
  • VFX: $2,000
  • Motion Graphics: $1,500
  • Colour: $2,500

  • Credit Sequence/Titles: $300.00
  • ADR: $500.00
  • Sound Design/Mix/Editing: $4,000.00

About This Team

CLYMB began in the audition room in January 2019 when I, writer & creator Lauren Greenwood, was casting my Fringe play, An Atlas, A Necktie & Other Concerns. I trusted my gut when carefully selecting Blythe, Myrthin, Chantel and Yvonne for this deeply personal piece. Not only were these women incredible actors, each bringing their own unique strengths, they were also people I was itching to sip a few drinks with.

And sip we did! Gallons of water in the rehearsal room as we bonded during intense and intimate sessions. Beers and cocktails afterwards as we picked apart our experiences as women on the cusp of life's biggest decisions. Tea before each performance when all those thoughts and discussions would be laid bare.

After the show ended, instead of parting ways as most do, we stuck close. Even as the pandemic raged, we kept sipping over Zoom. Everything we'd shared about our hopes and fears for the future had connected us. We talked about how we were going to continue connecting with audiences in this uncertain new world. And so the idea to turn the original play into a short film was born. And CLYMB Productions was born with it.

In 2022, it was time to dive into this idea in earnest. One of our first tasks was to find a director. But we didn't want just anyone... they had to be passionate about the project. CLYMB-level passionate. Enter Sabina Olivia Lambert, who coincidentally had helped me film the original auditions back in 2019. Finding her felt like a full circle moment for us all. Really, at this point we should just change our name to SCLYMB.
