The Story
"When they come for us, do you think they will be hostile or friendly?"
Our story takes place over one night in the aftermath of a breakup. Austin (Evan Evagora, Star Trek: Picard) finds himself isolated in his apartment, starting and stopping new projects, and spiraling deeper into the world of UFO conspiracy theories. His self-imposed bubble is burst when his ex, Ellie (Zoe Cipres, Roswell, New Mexico) arrives to pack up the rest of her things. Austin has to confront the feelings he's been unable to express, while at the same time untangle a series of strange occurrences in and around his apartment building that may prove that we're not alone in the world after all.

When I first read this script by Australian screenwriter and director Damian Overton I was immediately hooked - not only does it contain the DNA of stories I love like Close Encounters of the Third Kind and classic episodes of The X-Files, I was taken by its grounded, realistic approach to relationships. Breaking up is never easy, and can often lead to more questions than answers.
How do you find closure? Is it even possible? Can you live with never exactly knowing what went wrong - only that it did? We live in a world where we are more connected and exposed to other human beings than at any other point in history - so why do so many of us feel so alone?
On top of that - what is that weird screeching mechanical sound I keep hearing when I go up to smoke on my rooftop and take pictures of the moon? This is starting to get weird.

"ANOMALY" is ultimately a story about relationships, and we are taking inspiration visually and tonally from stories about characters who find themselves coming to grips with their obsessions and how that impacts their personal lives. This is a moody chamber piece with splashes of humor, a dash of warmth, and in the end a fair bit of spectacle to close us out.
Science fiction is also in the DNA of our performers - both Evan and Zoe have played aliens on TV!

We are looking to raise $7500 directly through Seed & Spark in order to cover the minimum costs of production. We have a combination of experience shooting scrappy no- and low-budget films, as well as multimillion dollar television shows for major networks. This is a project we are embarking on because we are passionate about the story are all very excited to work together, many of us for the first time!
Principal photography will occur in New York City in January of 2024.
