Mission Statement
Ashes takes a typically male dominated genre and tells it from the viewpoint of a woman who rejects submission and complacency despite oppression. Our goal is to have a female director and/or DP on each episode as well as promote an inclusive environment for all backgrounds.About The Project
ASHES is a western noir series, exploring a charged relationship between a moody bounty hunter tracking a fiery female outlaw. The two mortal enemies come together discovering they have an unforeseen bond that complicates their dynamic, which proves to be a deep conflict of interest.
The outlaw is in search of her way out of her trappings, literally and figuratively, and she recognizes the bounty hunter’s loneliness and despair. The female character rejects 1877 patriarchal-imposed roles, despite oppression and even persecution...a true rebel.
The bounty hunter has had a history of loss and alcohol abuse. Avoiding his emotions and heartbreak he has completely closed off from the world. The female outlaw finds his psychological weakness and uses it against him.
The provocative series provides a sense of adventure, danger, and violence around every turn, flipping the script on the stereotypes of the genre.
Each episode, new characters are introduced into this duo’s world, testing their tumultuous relationship even further. It's Bonnie and Clyde meets Deadwood inspired by the irony and tone of Tarantino and the witty banter of the film Maverick…It’s going be a hot, gritty, wild ride!
"Drifting ashes can spark a wildfire." –Anonymous
Darkness on the Frontier
Juxtaposing two competing genres; noir and western, the series evokes the vastness of the wilderness, the optimism of the wild west, and the dreams of prosperity––countered by the dark moodiness, the crime drama, and neurotic characters of the noir.
Ashes will be cinematic in scope, highlighting the landscape of 1800's Southern California, from the Santa Monica Mountains to the Mojave Desert, while focusing on the relationships that are just as wild as the terrain. The goal, a visually stunning period piece that compliments character driven performances that tear at your heart and make you laugh. Ashes is inspired by classic westerns but with a contemporary vibe.
