The Story
Meet Raj & Nadia
When Raj was born, an astrologer declared him to be cursed. He's going to die unless he gets married by 30. Holy crap!
But there's a solution! The 12 signs of the Zodiac. So, we’ll follow Raj’s journey from childhood to adulthood as he dates each Zodiac sign in hopes of breaking the curse.
Halfway through his journey, he meets a lovable Leo named Nadia and they quickly fall for each other. But when Nadia's workaholism clashes with Raj's carefree lifestyle, Raj makes the heartbreaking decision to move on from Nadia. Raj finally reaches the end of the Zodiac, only to realize that Nadia was always the one. But now it's too late. She's getting married to someone else.
The clock is ticking. Will Raj pursue Nadia and break up her happy marriage? Or let her go and face the music?
What’s it like?
If Polite Society married 500 Days of Summer.
Why I'm Making This Film
Dating is harder than ever today. In fact we’re in a loneliness epidemic. More people are relying on the apps to meet their partner, yet everyone is frustrated. Because when you have an abundance of choice, you tend to think the grass could be greener with someone else.
How do I know that? Because I’m one of those people!
My actual Hinge profile
As I’m getting older and seeing all my friends starting to couple up, sometimes I wonder “Am I cursed? Am I meant to be alone?” That’s what compelled me to tell this story. This film is for anyone who's ever felt unwanted and unloved.
The Importance of Representation
Inspiration from Master of None (2017)
It’s 2025 and we have yet to have a proper Desi rom com. One that doesn’t fall back on familiar stereotypes and make the culture the punchline.
This film is an opportunity to tell a different kind of comedy, that explores the messy realities of falling in love, while highlighting an immigrant family thats defined by their passions and flaws, not their culture.
This isn’t just a South Asian film. It’s a messy, hilarious love story and the characters just happen to be South Asian.
Why Are You Raising Money For Development?
And what does that mean?
We're raising money for development because it costs a significant amount of money to start making the film, well before the cameras start rolling. Our amazing crew can't work for free, so we're raising seed capital to help us rope in the bigger investors to complete fundraising.
We're also crowdfunding now to opt into Gold House's AAPI rally on Seed & Spark. If we're selected as the winner, we'll receive $10,000 and be invited to pitch to their network! Their mission strongly aligns with ours when it comes to championing Asian stories and storytellers.
But more importantly, we want to start building our audience now and raise as much as we can from our community, to prove that the world wants this movie to happen!
After this campaign ends, we'll be approaching private investors to raise the remainder of the budget, which we estimate to be between $300k-$500k.
