Mission Statement

Our mission is to connect, educate, and share the message that transformation is accessible to everyone - and that healing can be FUN! We value authenticity, reverence, joy, and play, and we believe this show has the power to change lives!

The Story

“As someone newer to Ayahuasca culture, this was a heartfelt, hilarious, and embodied reflection of being inside an ayahuasca journey. The interactive audience component was everything—it brought the experience to life with laughter and layers of depth at every turn. For anyone curious or new to this path, this introduction is both profound and entertaining—you don’t want to miss it!” -M. Curious

Ayahasca Inside Out is a collaborative project born from the heart-visions of three storytellers Loren Crea Abbate, Kacey Cardin, and Anthony Hidalgo. This improv theatre project brings a reverential yet hilarious experience to its audiences. The story depicts the life journey of Joul Anthony, a character who is bonded with pure Joy in the celestial realms. Upon being born, Joul learns about what it means to be separated from his true essence. The audience is taken into the life and internal landscape of Joul Anthony as he lives through a profound healing transformation. A chance encounter with the Spirit of Ayahuasca turns his birthday celebration inside out for all to witness and experience alongside him! The project is outrageous and provocative, ethereal and absurd, profane and sacred - very much like the duality of stepping into an expansive experience with this famous mystical brew. Whether you have experienced Ayahuasca's teaching firsthand or you are curious about what becomes possible in the force of this powerful medicine, this show is bound to strike some emotional chords, ignite curiosity, and inspire wonder and joy!

Our creative team collectively has over 25 years of experience delving deep into personal transformation and working with the plants. Currently, there is a psychedelic renaissance happening in our society. This speaks to a return to a way of living that promotes wisdom over degrees, abundance over scarcity, and love over competition. Psychedelics has an incredible potential to generate new neural pathways, open the heart, and return to the body's inherent wisdom. The time is now to bring Ayahuasca to the stage! Ayahuasca is an indigenous plant-vine entheogen brew that induces states of awe, wonder, and deep introspection. Oftentimes, this mystical brew is known as a Grandmother Spirit: here to educate, teach, and humble humanity one ceremony at a time. Kacey, Crea, Anthony, and their cast advocate for safe and conscious use of sacred plant medicine to address our society's mental health crisis and develop a deeper embodied sense of love, compassion and connection.

Crea has been sitting with the inspiration to bring Ayahuasca to the stage for a complete decade. She is delighted to see her original idea come to life in a new, unexpected way with the trifecta collaboration of Kacey and Anthony. Their shared storytelling reveals the joy of true collaboration and creative community bonding. This project is meant for communities to gather, bringing all kinds of people together in the name of healing and recognizing our shared, collective human emotions.

Kacey Cardin's first NYC musical theater gig was at the Fringe Festival in 2009.....full circle moment. She believes that the lifelong calling she felt to move to NYC, while certainly driven by music and theater, was perhaps also a calling from the plants. Her first psychedelic experience and awakening over a decade ago was prompted by a role she was playing in an opera at the time - theater and plant medicine has been deeply intertwined for her.

One does not need to physically ingest the sacred brew of Ayahuasca to receive her healing powers. She is, after all, a Grandmother Spirit, here to share the essence of her wisdom and wonder with unconditional love, regardless of how her children might behave. The time is now to bring Ayahuasca on stage to share her ways, ancient teachings, her mystic visions, and collective healing for humanity. We feel that the climate is ready to receive more from her in novel spaces, and she is ready to come out and take the stage! Will you hear the call? Will you help support Grandmother in her mission to heal humanity through creativity and community?

In our heart visions, Ayahuasca Inside Out becomes a fully immersive theater production, blurring the lines of ceremonial healing with shamanic theater. We are here to explore what collective human healing can look like, imagining ceremony and altered consciousness through presence, entertainment, humor, and a shared vulnerable experience of laughing, crying, and envisioning a new world together.
