Barbara is Taking the Stage to Tell HER Story
Endless jobs mean endless anecdotes and Barbara has some things to say about how she and other women have been treated in the workplace. She is taking the stage to recount her life, in her own unauthorized and unhinged way, including 8 original songs with topics such as:
- Starting a "boob revolution" in 1959
- Running for U.S. President in 1992
- Winning Olympic medals in the 70s and 80s
- Rehabilitating wildlife throughout her life
- PR crises and apologies
- Learning to be true to herself
- Oh, and Kenneth gets a song too
Why are we taking THIS show to the Fringe?
We wrote the first song for this show, First Female Presidential Candidate, about 8 years ago. It addresses the sexism in politics (and in general). Someone told us back then it wouldn't be relevant soon because America was about to have a female president.
Well, we hate to say it, but this show continues to be relevant year after year. In an effort to champion more female-led work, we decided to start with our own.
Lauren Laws and Johnny C. Leavitt, aka Laws and Leavitt, have written musicals together for over a decade--even while in separate cities and countries. Barbara (and Kenneth) is a passion project of theirs that started as a joke and over the years grew into something that encompasses a theme that they both feel strongly about: the best thing you can be is your authentic self.
Deanna Giulietti is a lifelong performer and professional hype woman who has taken social media by storm. You can learn more about her past performances and other projects here or by following her on social media @DeannaGiulietti. She's the perfect Barbara because of her talent AND because of how she consistently encourages people to be true to themselves.
We teamed up with a few more talented friends who all share the sentiment that if you want to make a dream come true, you might just have to do it yourself and now we're bringing this show to the Fringe. The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is a space where any performing arts show can come to life. It has spring-boarded shows like Six the Musical and Fleabag (which started as a one-woman show before becoming a 2 season hit), and Baby Reindeer.
In the meantime, you can get a sneak peek of the songs from our previous performers on Spotify or Apple Music.

We previously self-funded this show with an all-star cast in Provo, UT. Here's what audience members had to say:
“Bravo! This was more entertaining and thought-provoking than so much that actually makes it to Broadway.”
“I cried and laughed and cheered along the whole time.”
“Where have these songs been all my life?”
Those are real quotes from people who aren't our moms, though they love the show too.
To the Fringe and Beyond
This fundraising will help cover travel and production costs to take this show to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this August, but we hope that it has a long life as a show that is easy to produce for theatre companies and individuals.
Anything we raise beyond our goal will contribute to our greater mission of creating work that is accessible to performers of all kinds. We believe there aren't enough multi-dimensional women characters to play compared to all the multi-talented performers we know so we're doing what we can to create more.
Please share our campaign with anyone you think would enjoy watching, listening to, or performing our work.

About This Team
We have a close-knit creative team helping to bring this show to the Fringe. Some have been involved with the show since our first, very low-budget music video 8 years ago and some have been friends since high school theater days.
Everyone involved juggles multiple talents and generously gives their time, but here's is kind of how it breaks down:
Babetta Kelly, producer
Cassie Austin, associate director & choreographer
Kryssa Bowman, stage manager
Kass Bradford, graphic designer
Sammi Copé, marketing and content
Footage and Photos by
David Jon Banks
Plus, the many other people who helped support different stages and iterations of this show (or our other shows) with their time, talents, resources, and emotional support.
Thank you to everyone who got us to this point. You're all a part of our team.
