Ghosts aren't real. That’s why Drexler Faust and his Beyond the Shadows crew fake them for their show. Wanting more fans, Drex and the gang head to the Chetco River Lodge to explore the paranormal activity of the massacred Native spirits from before. The only problem this time - the ghosts ARE real!

Mission Statement

As Native filmmakers, we feel that it is important to explore the brutality that the United States inflicted upon the Native peoples of this country. It's never a topic that is thoroughly embraced among the general population. Our hope is to bring it back under discussion in a more calculated way.

The Story

Support this Cinderella story of newcomers having nothing but talent and drive to make movie magic.

In media, Natives are portrayed in only a few ways (think Indian Princess, noble or ignoble savage, or the tragically vanishing Indian), more often than not by non-natives. In Beyond the Shadows, not only are we telling our own story, but we are also the driving force behind it. We are the success story that is often untold.

Also, we are shedding light on Native American genocide. By adding this element, we want the world to understand and acknowledge that it has, and still is, happening. By accepting the idea that two white men organized the slaughter of an entire people, the audience unknowingly agrees that Native genocide exists.

“All we gave them was free healthcare.”

  –  Bryan, the unsung brains of the group

Furthermore, the story showcases some amazing local talent – charismatic, passionate, and dedicated! Follow us for details about the cast and crew!

"We need to start getting some answers from this evil spirit. Break out the spirit box."

   - Drexler Faust

On top of the local talent, we will be shooting in the Pacific Northwest, which is one of the most diverse and visually stunning areas in the world. I hope you like luscious green backgrounds and a-maz-ing, moody beach scenes.

PLOT

Our movie tackles the subject of Native American genocide through the story of Drexler Faust and his band of misfits on their wildly popular ghost hunting show Beyond the Shadows. The ghosts they hunt aren't real ghosts though; Drex and his crew fake the ghosts to get higher ratings, going to more and more extremes to keep their fanbase growing. That is until they run into real paranormal activity when the crew happens upon a haunted hotel placed upon a Native American massacre site.

"Doc, you're overthinking it. There's ghosts here. In this room. Just step inside."

- Sammy, the lovable cameraman

To keep their fans happy, Drex picks a really scary location - a haunted hotel that was built upon the massacre at Chetco village (https://ndnhistoryresearch.com/2017/04/20/massacre-at-the-chetko-villages-1853/).  Not knowing that the ghosts are real, Drex invites a mix of lucky fans, an authentic medium, and a group of debunkers lead by Dr. Harding (a man who hates Drexler Faust and his band of imposters) to find the ghosts together. This time, the ghosts are REAL, and this ragtag group is unprepared for the challenges they face as they try to survive the night against the vengeful Native spirits of the past.

Our movie is part horror, part comedy, and all heart.

About This Team

Our Writer/Director, Dave, just keeps cranking out new scripts. Our Art Director, Jenny, is too legit to quit. Our Producer, Jake, just graduated from film school and is chomping at the bit. Our Producer, Amy, can’t stop organizing. We are a machine. A movie-making machine. Seeing the lines on paper inspires all of us.

We can’t stop seeing the actors deliver the lines.

We can’t stop imagining the scenes playing out with music and colors.

Having so much talent in one family, it would be hard to NOT make movies.

Dave - Director and Writer

Strengths: Writing scripts. Thinking up crazy ideas. Making everyone fall in love with the characters.  Telling people how to say the word "hi" in different ways. Using adjectives.

Weaknesses: Singing (ironic because his last movie was a musical).

Jake - Writer, Director of Photography, Producer, Director

Strengths: Can do everyone else's job - writing, directing, producing, costume designing, set designing, DPing. Making us feel like we are doing a good job (even if we aren't). Great at emailing. Has boatloads of optimism. Good at motivating. Has book smarts.

Weaknesses: Dislikes when people ask if he is related to Adam Sandler. (He is not).

Jenny - Set Design, Costume Design, Art coordinator

Strengths: Casting amazing actors for our roles. Designing sets based on awesome scripts and Dave's random movie favorites. Finding great costumes for cheap. Putting a lot of thought into colors. Painting.

Weaknesses: Saying yes to too many things. Often mistaken for Amy.

Amy - Producer, Production Manager

Strengths: Organizing. Making lists. Keeping 20 different schedules in her head at all times. Making last minute changes. Staying calm under pressure. Has a pleasant phone voice.

Weaknesses: Can't handle it when someone doesn't email back right away. Often mistaken for Jenny.
