BIFL is expectations, different shades of intimacy, & what it really means to love someone. Blood family versus found family & how toxic relationships can both manifest & disguise themselves. How identities intersect, how labels can matter but don't have to, & how perception isn't always reality.

Mission Statement

BIFL was created by and for a wide variety of LGBTQIA+ identities and mental health experiences. The series is about intersectionality grounded in meaningful, real-life situations; both behind and in front of the camera, it's about our communities being seen and heard.

The Story

Jill is a little in love with her best friend Chloe and a little terrified to say anything to her about it, even though their roommate Sarah is both convinced that the feelings are mutual and sick to death of waiting for one of them to make a move. When the gang’s New Year’s Eve party ends with one hook-up, one not-quite-hookup, and one not-quite-breakup, everyone is left re-examining what they thought they knew about themselves and each other.

We have been working on developing BIFL into a high-quality web series for the past year and WE’RE SO EXCITED to launch our campaign in the PRIDE-full rainbow-striped month of June! We need your help to make the best series on the interwebs.

We are assembling a top-tier group of independent LGBTQ+ filmmakers to make our webseries not only the best quality but queer AF. After our highly successfully crowdfunding campaign (we know we’re confident!) is completed in July, we will commence on shooting BIFL Season 1. We will shoot six episodes over five days smack dab in the middle of a Los Angeles summer--that's how much we care about BIFL. Post production will be wrapped up in the fall, and then we will officially release the web series on…*drumroll* ... New Year’s 2019!

JILL has mostly no idea what she's doing as she digs her way out of an incorrect reality, reconstructs deeply important relationships, and discovers the best version of herself. She has a big heart but her selfish tendencies tend to manifest when life gets overwhelming.

TAYLOR keeps a distance so no one will see her anxiety, but lets herself suffocate under a patronizing and emotionally abusive sister. Smart, funny, and fiercely protective, but only if you push through the layer of icy abrasiveness that keeps anyone from wanting to pity her mental illness struggles. Her ex-boyfriend dumped her because of them.

CHLOE would do anything for the people she loves except show them how past trauma is still affecting her, if only so they won’t worry. Bubbly, magnetic, and would probably die for you.

SARAH is a non-binary lesbian struggling with both a fashion internship application and a growing fatigue with everyone’s bullshit. Loves their roommates to death, but if Jill and Chloe could take their drama down a notch or several, that would be great too. The first of two Mom Friends.

OLIVER is an aromantic bisexual baker, Sarah’s best friend, and will always give you baked goods with his advice. Went to culinary school but also got a psych degree online. The Purest Boy, and the second of two Mom Friends.

KYLE would be a 100% stereotypical Bro if he didn’t have so much junk floating around inside. Behind his deeply misguided, hyper-sexual facade is a closeted pansexual Trash King with a heart of gold.

BETH is Taylor’s older sister. Ever since their parents died in a car wreck about a decade ago, she’s become a wildly overprotective super-guardian who’s more interested in trying to fix problems that don’t exist than in building any sense of mutual trust or cooperation. She always has good intentions but doesn’t see how her behavior affects Taylor.

We shouldn't have to choose between good storytelling and diverse storytelling--and BIFL goes both ways. We want everyone to be able to find a piece of themselves reflected in the characters, whether it's the way they look, how they identify, or what they go through.

This is why #RepresentationMatters.
