The Story

Bigmouth is a horror comedy about Charlie, a low-level hood. He’s the bottom rung of the ladder for a criminal empire. His eye for the wrong ladies and his inability to keep his mouth shut has landed him in hot water with his boss, the nefarious Mr. Frizzi.
If Charlie wants to avoid the clutches of Mr. Frizzi he’s going to need to hide for 24 hours.
Unfortunately for Charlie he picked the wrong place to hide. Because in this very motel room, this sleazy hideaway, Charlie is most definitely NOT alone. Haunting the room is a pair of very talkative, very hungry disembodied lips. Yes, you read that right: lips. They want out of this motel room and they need Charlie’s help to do it.
Will Charlie help the lips escape? What about Milo, Charlie’s long suffering friend? Will Milo get Charlie safely out of town? Will Charlie’s girlfriend Cindy play nice with the lips? And just who the hell is Mad Uncle Louie anyway?
All of these questions will be answered….in BUCKETS of blood!

I fell in love with exploitation and horror films at an early age. Whether it was late at night on TV when I should've been asleep or walking up and down the rows of VHS at the video store, I was hooked. Movies with titles like: Basket Case, The Hills Have Eyes, The Tingler, The Undertaker & His Pals, and Blood Feast. How could anybody not be drawn to movies like that?
There was something about these films in particular that were really exciting, like they were made on the fringes of cinema by outlaws or by carnies who forgot to strap on the safety harnesses. Some were fun, some were tasteless, some were polished, and some were rough around the edges at best. Sometimes you caught them on the late late show being introduced by some horror host or in a theater that now no longer exists. Maybe you watched it alone or gathered around a TV with friends. However you always remembered where you were and who you were with when you saw these movies.
And it wasn't just the movies themselves, it was also the way they were marketed. Posters with the most memorable taglines like: "To Avoid Fainting, Keep Repeating 'It's Only A Movie, Only A Movie'" (The Last House On The Left), "If This Movie Doesn't Make Your Skin Crawl....It's On Too Tight" (Black Christmas), "When There's No More Room In Hell The Dead Will Walk The Earth" (Dawn Of The Dead). Gimmicks like barf bags handed out to theater patrons for "Mark Of The Devil" or the Butcher Mobile which parked outside theaters on 42nd Street and convinced audiences to come inside and see "Dr. Butcher MD." Real showmanship on display. All of this made me fall madly in love with exploitation films.
Bigmouth is my contribution towards making sure films like these still get made, that they still have their place in the cinema. It's my thank you to filmmakers like Frank Henenlotter, Roger Corman, Herschell Gordon Lewis, William Lustig, and Jack Hill who have not only influenced me but so many others.
We need your help! Bigmouth is an ambitious project. While a film with a single location sounds like it should be a pretty simple undertaking, it couldn't be further from the truth! The look of the film is a huge part of its charm and we want to make our location look like it's trapped in time, specifically the late 70's/early 80's. This requires a lot of production design and materials.
And effects. Did we mention that there is blood in this? There is. A LOT. Not only does fake blood cost money but finding a location that will allow us to use copious amounts of it....well that costs money too! Not too mention the fact that one of our lead characters (the pair of disembodied lips) is an effect itself and you can imagine how much everything adds up.
Last but certainly not least, we're putting together a hell of a team and we want to make sure they're taken care of!
We've raised half the budget already and are crowdfunding to raise the other half. Every contribution we receive gets us closer to making this weird and wild short film the best it can possibly be.
WHY BACK THIS FILM?
1. Love of independence: You love independent cinema, specifically genre and exploitation films that remain outside of industry constraints, and naturally have fewer traditional funding models.
2. A bit of nasty fun: Simply put, you know that we will make a sleazy, nasty, campy short film that's fun to watch and fun to share.
3. Employment: This is your chance to help us create jobs in an industry that's struggling to stay afloat, especially in a city that frankly hasn’t had a good year so far. Your contribution will employ a crew of 17 and a cast of 6 for 3 days this year.
OK, I DONATED. NOW WHAT?
Films cost money and whatever you can contribute goes a long way, it truly does! But word of mouth- or word of Bigmouth- goes a long way too! Please help us get the word out, follow/like this campaign, share this Seed And Spark page with friends, and follow us on instagram at @bigmouthshortfilm ! It all helps more than you know!

Mickey Galie- Director, Writer
Mickey Galie is a filmmaker, actor, and genre film historian residing in Los Angeles. His short films range story-wise from an insomniac's late night wandering in Hollywood to a zombie-like apocalypse triggered by a call to a phone sex hotline. He co-hosts the podcast Video Vampires which covers genre films from yesteryear and his The Great American Sleepover podcast also acts as an extensive deep dive into horror and exploitation films.
Tevin Johnson- Lead "Charlie"
Tevin Johnson started acting the moment he stepped into his first grade class. From there he played the role of "Class Clown" all the way up to college. It was there that Tevin realized that what he wanted to do was act. On a professional and artistic level (not just a disruptive level). He made his way to Hollywood to further hone his craft, to express himself on set and on stage. Since then he has appeared on stage, commercials, video games, and television.
(NOTE FROM DIRECTOR: "I first met Tevin when I joined an acting class to understand the other side of the camera. Tevin was always a standout, he could play anything. Once, I saw him perform a piece he wrote, a semi-autobiographical scene that ended in a truly embarrassing way for his character. What really struck me about Tevin in this moment was that he was fearless. He didn't care a bit about looking ridiculous or vulnerable and because of that he had the audience in the palm of his hand. I got to thinking about this crazy idea I had about a pair of lips haunting a motel that I didn't know what to do with. It was then that I realized that Tevin was the missing piece to make this story happen and thus the main character of Charlie was born."
