A short horror proof-of-concept

A neo-noir vampire domestic thriller about a pregnant woman who discovers her hematologist husband may have changed their unborn child, and saving the baby may require her own transformation.
Image courtesy of Blumhouse Television / Hulu / Into the Dark: "Delivered" (2020).

Soon-to-be mother Nina Monroe suspects her husband, Eric, is hiding something. When she discovers a strange totem that unlocks a hidden space on their property, the tension inside their beautiful home begins to crack open. That night, Nina wakes in pain, sweating, with bite marks on her thigh. Eric is gone. Then a terrified woman appears inside the house wounded, frantic, and warning Nina that something is very wrong with her husband. As Nina moves through the shadowed home, the truth comes for her: Eric is a vampire, and the first bite was not a random attack. It was for the baby. The second BITE is for Nina.

BITE is a human story first: a couple facing uncertainty, intimacy, fear, and the terrifying permanence of bringing a child into the world together. Black people are at the center of our film because RIM makes universal genre stories that do not treat people of color as side characters, symbols, or exceptions. The idea came from a dream
about my relationship as it was entering a deeper, scarier level of intimacy.
BITE turns that fear into body horror, marriage horror, and transformation. The film represents where RIM is going: contained, high-concept genre stories that can compete with mainstream horror while centering people still too often pushed to the margins. This is not just another short. It is a step toward building a company that does not
wait for permission to enter the genre conversation.

BITE blends body horror, domestic thriller, noir tension, and vampire mythology.
The visual world shifts from muted sunlight and suburban unease to a shadowy, purple-hued night inside a beautiful home that slowly reveals itself as a trap. The film should feel intimate, elegant, and increasingly wrong — building from marital suspicion to bodily violation to a blood-soaked supernatural reveal.
Tonal / Visual Comps:
Rosemary’s Baby — pregnancy paranoia and domestic conspiracy
The Invisible Man — intimate-partner violation and control
The Fly — biological transformation and tragic body horror
Let the Right One In — intimate vampire mythology
A Quiet Place — pregnancy under threat, suspense over exposition
Nina Monroe
Black woman, 30s. Pregnant, sharp, suspicious, emotionally exhausted, and not passive. Nina wants truth, safety, and
control over her body, her child, and the life she thought she was building.
Eric Monroe
Black man, 30s. A hematologist, husband, vampire, and liar. Eric believes he is protecting his family, but his love has
curdled into control.
Bonnie
Woman, 30s, any ethnicity. Eric’s latest victim. Wounded, terrified, and trying to save Nina before the house closes in around her. Bonnie is what Nina may become if she does not understand the truth fast enough.

Format: Short horror proof-of-concept
Estimated runtime: 8–10 minutes
Primary location: One house
Target shoot window: August 2026
Production plan: 8 shoot days over 3 weeks
Target budget: $8,000
BITE funding is allocated to essential production elements, including cast, cinematography, sound, lighting, practical effects, locations, and necessary travel and lodging.

BITE began with a dream and with a fear I was living through in my own way: the fear of deeper intimacy, of binding yourself to another person, and of discovering that love can change you in ways you cannot fully control. At its core, the film is about trust.
I wanted to take that emotional terror and push it into genre: vampirism, body horror, marriage horror, and transformation. BITE is a contained neo-noir domestic thriller. It lives in shadow, blood, skin, silence, and the pressure of a home that no longer feels safe.
This film represents where I want Red Is Mine Media to go: original POC-centered genre stories where shadows become solid. Stories that are universal, commercially legible, and still center people too often pushed to the margins of mainstream horror. I want the audience to feel trapped inside Nina’s uncertainty: afraid of Eric, afraid for the baby, and afraid of what survival may require her to become.
