Black Girl: The Musical

Comedy, Satire
I want audiences to laugh, cry, and cringe—not just at the absurdity of our circumstances, but at how deeply they’re rooted in systemic injustice and internalized pain. Black Girl: The Musical is my love letter, my battle cry, and my healing. It's truth wrapped in glitter and humor.

The Story
Welcome, Bienvenue, to Black Girl: The Musical!
The Colored Museum meets Cabaret meets Chicago
A Satirical, Soul-Baring Spectacle Disguised as a Beauty Pageant
Welcome to the world of Black Girl: The Musical—a sharp, hilarious, and hauntingly familiar minstrel-cabaret pageant where six Black women are judged, ranked, and made to perform for a crown they never asked for. Each contestant is a walking stereotype—The Suburban, The African First-Gen, The Angry Social Justice Warrior, The Ghetto Baby Mama, The Plain Regular, and The Mixed White-Passing Queen—all competing for the title of “Miss Black Supreme.”
This isn’t just a musical. It’s a mirror held up to colorism, featurism, texturism, and internalized oppression—with high notes. Think The Colored Museum meets Cabaret meets Chicago....

Why This Matters
I’m Brandi Campbell—creator, performer, and Black woman navigating a world that sees me through a filtered lens. Black Girl: The Musical is my love letter, war cry, and therapy session rolled into one. I’m tired of watching us hurt each other while carrying pain we didn’t cause. This show challenges the narratives that limit us and reclaims the stories we were told to hide.
I want Black women to laugh at the ridiculousness, cry at the realness, and walk away feeling seen—not just for how the world categorizes us, but for who we actually are.
Where is the Money Going?
We’re building Black Girl: The Musical from the ground up. Your support helps bring this vision to life—and protect it legally, artistically, and culturally. Here’s how your donations will be used:
Phase One: Legal & Administrative
- Trademarking the title and branding
- Copyrighting the script and music
- Registering the work with the Library of Congress
- Domain and website setup
Phase Two: Development & Creative Team
- Hiring a composer/arranger for music production
- Stipends for collaborators, character development workshops
Phase Three: Readings & Live Workshopping
- Venue rentals for staged readings or musical concerts
- Rehearsal space rentals
- Cast & crew stipends
- Director & musical director fees
Phase Four: Design & Promo
- Set and costume design concepts
- Visual branding and logo animation
- Promo shoot for teaser trailers, social reels, and press
Why Now?
Because Black women are still being flattened into caricatures, weaponized through media tropes, and pitted against one another in real life and onstage. This musical meets the moment with satire, heart, and soul. And we can't afford to wait for a gatekeeper to give it a greenlight. We're building it ourselves.

Final Note
Your donation isn’t just helping a show—it’s helping a shift. A shift in narrative, in representation, and in who gets to stand in the spotlight. Thank you for helping us raise the curtain on something real.
