The slasher sub-genre once reigned supreme, giving us iconic films like Halloween, Friday the 13th, and Scream. While the adoration for these works hasn't faltered, funding for original ideas has. Help us introduce a new, knife-wielding killer to this beloved arena of maniacs, lunatics, and legends!

Mission Statement

Horror has always provided catharsis while highlighting the ingenuity of the creatives behind it. Our team is made up of women, POC, immigrants, and members of the LBTQ community, all of whom wish to continue the legacy of crafting chilling media for a diverse audience of thrill-seekers.

The Story

In this horror-comedy slasher, Laurie and Grant stay late at their bridal boutique job and examine their views on relationships and the ultimate commitment of marriage. They quickly discover that finding yourself alone can lead to worse things than loneliness, especially when someone has cut the power... and your throat.

In the Spring of 2019, after forging a friendship in a TV Pilot writing class, Aine and Roberto came together to discuss one of their shared passions: horror. A conversation that spanned hours and resulted in the creation of a project named: It’s My Wedding & I’ll Die If I Want To. Through long-distance, a global pandemic, and bouts of writer’s block, Roberto and Aine completed their first draft of the bloody and hilarious, who-done-it slasher that would serve as the first in a trilogy of films. A trilogy, they struggled to give a fitting opening to. After multiple drafts, re-writes, read-throughs, and roughly 10 alternate versions of the opening, the writing duo landed on one that felt so right they decided to turn it into a short. This short — the beginning of Black Veil’s saga.

GRANT: (late 20s) An over-achieving, overly-groomed, bitterly underpaid twink that continues to put his career above any sort of personal fulfillment.

LAURIE: (late 20s) Quick-witted and charming, Laurie is everything you want out of a best friend and everything you despise out of a co-worker.

BLACK VEIL: An androgynous but chic killer veiled in a shroud of lace.

We’ve secured two incredible locations to bring Black Veil to life.

HANNA BRIDAL

Black Veil is set in a bridal store, a pristine place not associated with spooks and scares. We are grateful to be shooting at Hanna Bridal, a WOC- owned and operated local boutique. With its walls of shimmering white dresses and plush pink chairs, it is sure to disarm audiences to the horrors that await them.

DOWNTOWN FASHION DISTRICT WAREHOUSE

When thinking about the logistics of our chase scene, we knew we needed a large space to do it justice. We will be creating our bridal boutique’s back storage room in a spacious industrial warehouse. We will fill the space with clothing racks, wedding dresses, and mannequins for our victims to use as they attempt to escape our veiled killer.

The safety of our crew and cast is of the utmost importance to us, so COVID safety measures will be taken on set. Half of our directing team, Aine Geraghty, works as a COVID Compliance Officer and is knowledgeable on industry protocol and how to enforce it. The entire team is vaccinated and will be wearing masks for the entirety of the shoot. Our actors will also be masked anytime they are off camera. If any members of our crew begin to feel symptomatic at any time, we will send them home and ask them to provide us with negative test results before returning.

  • JULY 2022

We secured locations, visited said locations to ensure there are no surprises, locked in the crew, finalized the script, and created a detailed budget. With our Director of Photography, we built an equipment rental plan and with our Production Designer, we addressed every prop, costume, and set dressing needed.

  • AUGUST 2022

We have launched our crowdfunding campaign and will continue with pre-production. This includes: hiring our cast and rehearsing the scenes, testing our special effects makeup, and finalizing our shot list and shooting schedule. During all of this, we will be promoting our campaign — a process we hope you take part in by sharing our page and pledging.

  • SEPTEMBER 2022

Production on Black Veil will begin with a full day of set-up, turning our warehouse space into a bridal store storage room. We'll run camera and lighting tests, set up our equipment, and gear up for three days of laughs and spooks.

  • SEPTEMBER - DECEMBER 2022

Our editor will assemble a final cut of the film as our composer helps elevate it to new heights. During this time we will complete any incentives from our campaign.

  • 2023

In the new year, we'll submit Black Veil to numerous festivals such as Screamfest, Beyond Fest, and other notable Horror film festivals. Following their festival premieres, we will release Black Veil online for the public and continue using the short to pitch the feature-length version waiting in the wings!

About This Team

Aine Geraghty is a graduate of Emerson College, where she studied Screenwriting, and is a student of The Groundlings. As a lifelong horror fan, she serves as co-host of The Girls Who Cried B-Horror podcast and is an avid reader of Fangoria magazine.

Roberto Guevara is a first-generation Colombian-American and graduate of Emerson College, where he studied Screenwriting and Production. He's a writer, candle-maker, and yoga teacher — the only thing holding him back from being a bonified Hallmark Heroine is his pesky love of horror.

Maryam Fassihi was born into a family of doctors and scientists and came out a filmmaker. A graduate of Emerson College, she has produced five projects and feeds on collaboration with other passionate artists. While bumps in the night and shadowy figures are her worst fears, the horror genre has produced some of her all-time favorite films.

Ruoyu Zhang is a young filmmaker from Shanghai, China who considers her life an adventure. She used to stand on stage as the singer of a rock band. She also stood on the platform of a primary school as a Chinese teacher. But now, as a graduate of Florida State University's film school, she stands behind a camera on movie sets.

Born in Santa Cruz, California, Amaris Pueyes grew up spending most of her life in Chile and traveling through South America. This opportunity sparked a curiosity for cultures and a passion for storytelling through the performing arts. Today, Amaris is expanding her creative path by continuing her studies in Film Production at the University of Southern California.

Alex Ivany is a visual storyteller who specializes in post-production and approaches each project with a fresh and enthusiastic outlook.

Rachel Baldwin is a singer-songwriter and composer currently residing in Los Angeles. Her debut EP of angsty and reflective folks songs was released in 2017, and she is currently working on her follow-up album. She’s opened for folks acts Livingston Taylor and Novo Amor, and is a one-time award winner for Best Score for “Lena and Simone,” a short film submitted to the 2017 48 Hour Film Festival in Rhode Island.

Sarah Manners fell in love with makeup while attending performing arts camp, where they studied stage makeup under NYC-based makeup artist Dani Fonseca-Ondrek (creator of The Body of Art & Lady Gaga's former tour makeup artist). At Emerson College, they did SFX on numerous projects. Although modern horror scares the living dead out of them, Sarah adores creating gory displays and creepy kooks.

Abigail Baldwin is a writer, artist and people person who loves good acting and bad tv.
