The Story

(MEETING OF THE MINDS)
At it's heart, BLOCK is about a relationship struggling to communicate—and what happens when the things left unsaid begin to take on a life of their own.
The film begins with something familiar: two people who know each other extremely well, yet seem increasingly unable to truly communicate. Beneath that ordinary surface is a secret that changes the way we understand their relationship and everything that has come before it.
I’ve always been fascinated by the strange and unsettling hiding beneath ordinary life, and by the uncomfortable space where comedy, absurdity, and something genuinely disturbing can exist at the same time.
BLOCK grew from that sensibility. I want the film to surprise people—to make them laugh one moment and deeply uncomfortable the next, and hopefully leave them asking one simple question:
What the fuck did I just watch?

Joe Boccia Jr. is a film lover, screenwriter, actor, score composer, musician, and comedian.
BLOCK is his first short film as a writer, director, actor, editor, and composer.
We're raising about $4,500 to bring BLOCK from the page to the screen.
Anything beyond that will help us make the movie bigger, better, and give it a better shot at finding an audience.
Every contribution will go directly toward the filmmaking process—from bringing talented actors and crew on board, to securing the right location, camera and lighting equipment, production materials, and the resources needed to finish the film at the level I envision.
The budget will also help cover post-production, including editing, color and sound finishing, as well as festival submissions and distribution so the finished film can reach audiences beyond the people who helped make it possible.
We're keeping the production intentionally focused and contained, allowing the budget to go where it matters most: the people, performances, images, sound, and details that make the film feel like a real cinematic experience.
The goal isn't simply to make a short film. It's to make the best version of this particular film that we can—and to give it a life beyond its initial production.

Joe Boccia Jr. — Writer, Director & Actor
Joe is an actor, writer, and musician who has spent years working in film, television, and theater. Block is his next step: a film he’s written specifically to make with his friends.
Hyten Davidson — Producer
Hyten is a longtime friend and independent filmmaker with extensive experience making films from the ground up. She brings the practical know-how to turn Block from a script into a finished movie.
Matt Kopsachilis— Producer
Matt is also a longtime independent filmmaker and collaborator and friend, with years of experience navigating the wonderfully chaotic world of indie film production. Along with Joe and Hyten, He makes up the core team behind Block.
Anthony Echo- Producer
Anthony has been in the film industry for a long time. His knowledge of the industry and his tenacious spirit make him a vital part of the Block team
