Mission Statement

With it's co-production with Breaking & Entering Theatre Collective, Body Negative is the next stage of Broadway Bods's tenure, a piece of theatre that puts a terrifying mirror up to the current state of diet culture in the age of weight loss drugs.

The Story

Our History

Since its inception in 2021, Broadway Bods has aimed to center body positivity by prioritizing fat creators and actors.

Its 2022 and 2023 season included size inclusive casts of Wild Party and You're a Good Man Charlie Brown.

In Broadway Bod's 2024-2025 season, new work became the focus with premieres of the new play Rascals and the new musical Query.

With these successes, Broadway Bods looks to the future and a play that showcases exactly what its mission statement is all about, a new play named Body Negative, a co-production with Breaking & Entering Theatre.

Our Next Project

A bit about the show: A local weight loss support group gathers every Saturday in the high school gym. But when a visit from corporate—and a sentient talking scale named SCALE—throws their routine into disarray, the group finds themselves spiraling into something far more sinister. As weigh-ins become theatrical, infomercials interrupt reality, and a strange new soup begins to change people, Body Negative spirals into a surreal takedown of diet culture. Blending absurdity with stark realism, the play asks what it means to reclaim your body in a world that keeps trying to sell it back to you.

Why Support Us? What are We Fundraising for?

We were lucky enough to be there for a reading of Body Negative, produced by Breaking & Entering last year and are so happy that we are able to pair with them to take this play to the next step with a more fully realized production.

Body Negative will be have a weeklong run in July 2026 at Speyer Hall on the lower east side; we are fundraising for that production. At the time of this launch we are preparing for auditions and submitting paperwork to make the production an Equity showcase. The funds we are raising for this show will help us with overall production costs, the bulk of which are our performance space and production stipends.
