The Story
Story
Stevie does not want to remember his grandpa in his near-death state. He wants to hold onto his fond memories in the past and shut out the current turmoil by trying to create the perfect picture - one that his grandpa took years ago. Throughout the film, Stevie learns that photography (and life) is about more than perfection. Instead, it is about being in tune with your feelings because when your memory fades, your feelings hold the moments of your life.
Purpose & Motivation
Similarly, I went through a very difficult time when my grandfather passed, and I think a story like this would have helped me get through that time. I want this film to be able to help high schoolers who may not understand that it is a good thing to feel complex emotions.

Boppie is currently in pre-production and we plan to shoot in November of 2021. This crowdfunding campaign will help us launch into production, and carry us all the way through post-production. Those who pledge will be able to view the film upon its completion in May 2022 just before it hits the festival screens!
Characters
Stevie
Stevie loves his Boppie (grandpa) but doesn't want to remember him in his ill-health state. Instead of living in the moment and making new memories with Boppie while he still has time, he holds onto the past and tries to recreate moments from when Boppie was in his youth.
Albert
Albert is Stevie's grandpa who is suffering from Alzheimer's. He used to be a professional photographer and loved capturing and cherishing the emotions of life. He understands that life is about more than perfection.

Visuals & Tone
For this project, we want to focus on visual storytelling: conveying how characters feel through camera movement, lighting, and space instead of just dialogue.
Here are some things we wish to accomplish:
- Motivated movement
- Static shots when we want the film to feel still.
- Giving time to study the character’s face and the environment.
- Focus on having more intentional angles, not just the simple coverage of wide, medium close up, close up, etc.
- A variety of focal lengths.
Here is an idea of what the film may look and feel like:

Why Now? (COVID-19)
While being locked away in our houses during the COVID-19 pandemic, many of us have felt alone. Some have felt this more than others. This story needs to be told now more than ever because of the current world environment. Now is the time that people need to hear the message that it is a good thing to feel complex emotions.

About This Team
Ethan has loved creating his entire life. It started with making model rocket launchers out of PVC pipe, small cars powered by a single mousetrap, and endless amounts of paper airplanes. When his late grandfather, Jim Maxwell, let him borrow one of his cameras for school, Ethan's passion for film was born. Ethan loves telling stories through film. He wants to create films that make an audience feel something. It is his desire to not only create an incredible experience for the viewer during the film but to also spark conversations and community afterward.
Meryl has worked as a producer on over five short films and one feature length film. Her love for filmmaking began in her early childhood while watching behind the scenes footage of her favorite movies with her older brother. Meryl has a keen eye for organization and a talent for project managment. She enjoys aggregating a group of people around the common interest of telling a compelling story, and her dream is to produce narrative feature length films professionally.
Autumn has worked on a number of short films, large-scale events, and concerts as a producer. She passionate about logistics and enjoys collaborating with others to bring their stories to life and search for creative ways to bring people together. Outside of filmmaking, Autumn enjoys studying law and hopes to one day bridge these two passions.
