The Story

Welcome to the BOYZ CLUB.
So actually, we're a group of 20-something college friends who just want to make people laugh with a completely original, female-driven web series. BOYZ CLUB is built on friendship, fun, and lack of funds. Help us focus on the first two!

A suit, a stache, some slacks, and a dream to make it big in a male-dominated world.
After facing hundreds of job rejections, best friends Lizzy and Vanezza, are forced to face their absolute worst post-grad nightmare: moving out of their NYC apartment and back in with their parents. Just before they call it quits, they find themselves at a bro-infested party where they have a groundbreaking revelation. Maybe this rejection isn’t just about their resumes or intelligence, but about the whole of who they are … girls. In order to succeed in our society, do you just need to be a man? Through a series of four web-episodes, Lizzy and Vanezza test this very question. With just some tacky costumes, wigs, and a change in confidence, the girls transform themselves into their male alter egos. Stepping onto the streets of NYC, they become perceived in a strikingly different light and find themselves caught up in some unexpected antics. But by embarking on this adventure, the girls embrace self-discovery, become comfortable with their own femininity, and find power in what it means to be a woman.

Meet your new favorite comedic duo.
BOYZ CLUB takes inspiration from absurdly unrealistic costume transformations from Pen15 and brings us into the chaotic, broke post-grad world of Broad City. Like our inspirations, we hope to capture female friendship in a relatable and genuine way, and create original, bold comedic moments.

Why join the BOYZ CLUB? Because our industry and the world feel like one.
Noticing the lack of female voices and original work in our current comedy scene, we created BOYZ CLUB, where we embrace the experimental and the magic of female friendship. BOYZ CLUB is a breath of fresh, absolutely hilarious air.
In a world where women are constantly pushed aside, as explained our Co-Director, "sometimes the rage we feel at these unfair systems can be best criticized in a comedy, not because the situation is laughable, but because being able to laugh at it gives us power." A little laughter can go a long way in our crazy world.
BOYZ CLUB asserts itself as a show where you can laugh with your friends, but also reflect about how ridiculous the world has become, and maybe even find the courage to stand up to it in your own unique, bold way.

BOYZ CLUB stems from our experience as two young women in comedy. We’re both currently members of two NYU all-female/non-binary comedy groups together, where we’ve formed our partnership as an upcoming iconic duo, @off_kilter_comedy! It’s been incredibly empowering to be in spaces led by women, and we realize how rare this still is- especially in comedy. Through many performances wearing wigs and playing outlandish characters we’ve found more of our comedic voices and discovered the freedom in putting on a different persona. Wearing a wig is ultimately like wearing a mask; it gives us the opportunity to be messy and vulgar, rather than defined solely by our femininity. BOYZ CLUB is a story that allows us to explore the ways female identity is entangled in societal perception all through a comedic lens, full of tacky costumes, comedic bits, and lots and lots of physical comedy. As the characters explore new personas, they are able to discover the power they have as women in a male-dominated world. We hope to tell an original story that is honest, authentic, relatable, and of course … makes you laugh!
- Kate and Avery

"When Kate explained the concept of Boyz Club over a dinner of pierogies and soup to Lily, a friend, and me, my interest was immediately piqued. It’s silly, peculiar, and absurd, but underneath all of that, it has a soul. It’s truly about something. That’s what drew me to the project. Avery and Kate have such a unique sense of humor and charm that it’s entertaining just being around them, let alone watching them on screen. My first memory of my friend Lily is slapping her. There was a bug on her, to be fair. Co-directing is a little like that. Occasionally painful, but ultimately in service of keeping each other bug-free. There’s probably a metaphor in there somewhere and I look forward to finding it together. Just like there’s a metaphor in BOYZ CLUB, one that we hope, through all its hilarity and bizarre charm, resonates with whatever audience we’re lucky enough to find."
- Aidan Kiyashka
"The first thing I noticed about Kate and Avery when I hung out with them for the first time was just how smart both of them were. They would come up with funny ideas on the spot by finishing each other's sentences. Their energy was electric and their humor was unlike anything I had seen before. I never knew I would get the chance to work with them on a project like this, so being able to bring their vision of BOYZ CLUB to life is truly an honor. I’ve always been an enjoyer of comedy. Shows like Pen15 and Broad City were huge for me as a teenager and inspired me to want to work in television. Both of those shows are definitely big inspirations for the tone and style of BOYZ CLUB. Avery and Kate have a distinct voice that is hilarious while staying grounded and relatable. I also love telling stories of female friendship, which Avery and Kate understand like no other. I am excited to work with a team of people who understand that vision and are passionate about telling this story in a hilarious way. It’s always been a dream to be a part of a project like this, and I couldn’t be doing it with a better team. I believe stories like these can help make people feel a little less alone in their struggles by giving them something to laugh at, which is why I am so happy to be a part of this project."

MEET THE CO-DIRECTORS
Lily Hess
Lily is a filmmaker from Dallas Texas. She’s currently in her third year at NYU Tisch and is so excited to be a part of this project! She’s interested in telling women led and queer stories. She also now helps run a premier NYU sketch comedy team known as Comic Sans (don’t ask her to tell you a joke, she doesn’t do improv). Some of her favorite movies/tv shows include Aftersun, Little Miss Sunshine, Pen15, and Succession. In her free time she likes to ponder what it all means and save recipes she never makes.

Aidan Kiyashka
Kiyashka is a writer-director based in New York City, currently studying at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. He began making films as a child, animating clay figures on his bedroom floor. Now his short films have screened at AcademyAward-qualifying festivals including the Seattle International Film Festival and Cinequest. His films sit at the intersection of unflinching honesty and deep tenderness, exploring difficult truths in search of connection. Love in all its complicated forms sits at the root of every story he tells. He wants audiences to see their own humanity in his characters, wrestle with their conflicts, and walk away a little more compassionate than when they arrived.
