The Story
An alternative contraceptive procedure tests the relationship between a wellness influencer and her best friend.
When women’s wellness influencer Abby Liu (@AbbySoFabulous) gets an IUD to appease her condom-hating boo Brian, strange symptoms hit. Her best friend Kayla (@Nobody) anticipated as much and argued against the entire thing- but she didn’t anticipate the device possessing Abby, turning her into a demon bent on bloodlust. As Abby’s cravings worsen, along with her and Kayla’s ability to discuss the reality of the situation, Abby’s demon makes a cannibalistic choice.
Visually, the film will draw upon the language of comparables in genre, theme, and style.
Color contrast and palettes akin to Jennifer's Body, It Follows, and Lisa Frankenstein highlight differences in our characters and their feelings. Heavy shadows like those in to Talk to Me, Creep, and Evil Dead Rise will craft an atmosphere of dread and suspense as we follow Abby's contraceptive journey.
Framing inspired by the photography of Gregory Crewdson and Suspiria forms voyeuristic 'frames within a frame' that emphasize isolation and the watchful eye of Kayla- and the phone always in Abby's hand. Punctured, choreographed movement of the Yorgos Lanthimos, Pulse, and Hereditary variety will ensue. The body makes one home in the frame while the demon makes another.
The idea for Brian came from my own experience with a Mirena IUD, as well as countless horror stories I’ve heard from friends, family, and lovers over the years. I personally passed out upon insertion and experienced the worst physical pain of my life while the device was inside me, leading me to get it removed, where I passed out again. Nobody should have to live with this pain and trauma just to protect themselves from unwanted pregnancy.
With the dissolution of Roe v. Wade, more and more women are going to rely upon alternative contraceptive measures in a world where less and less men wear condoms or have an interest in bearing even the slightest contraceptive burden (yet they still want sexual access . . . how curious)!
I'm beyond angry at the lack of scientific research being done on these devices and medications we put inside our bodies, the way female pain is minimized and dismissed. I'm beyond angry at the men who claim to love us sitting by while we experience trauma they can never imagine. I'm beyond angry at myself! How dare I ever stay with someone who pressured me against condom usage at the expense of my health and sanity- and I know I'm not the only one. Let's talk about it.

Genna Edwards
Genna writes, films, and makes music in Brooklyn, New York (or wherever the next sound-mixing gig takes her). She feels at home in the horror genre and punk spaces, creating work that challenges the dominant ideology surrounding women and their bodies. Her production company Carmilla Productions crafts female-focused, LGBTQ+ horror films, of which Brian Won’t Wear Condoms will serve as debut.
Samantha Salvemini
Samantha is a hands-on producer, production manager, and photographer based in Northern NJ. She has a passion for indie filmmaking, with 4 years of experience producing indie short films. She dedicates herself to creating a tight-knit crew and providing support for the whole team bringing super cool art into the world.
Molly Scotti
Molly is a Brooklyn-based cinematographer, photographer, and filmmaker. A 2022 graduate of Wesleyan University's film program, her debut feature as Director of Photography, Ben and Suzanne: A Reunion in Four Parts, premiered at South by Southwest this past March. In addition to her film work, she teaches classes at the documentary film community DCTV in Chinatown and is a regular volunteer at the nonprofit film school and community darkroom Mono No Aware.
Coco Oei
Coco is a Filipino writer and filmmaker who hails from Manila. Most recently, she was nominated for the 2023 Pushcart Prize with her poem, “Central Luzon and I Have Our Secrets.” When she’s not writing, she works as a dedicated wardrobe and talent assistant for film and TV.
Tiffany GiGi
Tiffany is a performance Makeup artist based in NYC. She has over five years of experience & worked on countless short films, feature films, commercials, music videos & fashion shows. Her style is very versatile. She specializes in SFX makeup and clean natural makeup.
