On a quiet Saturday afternoon in a Southern Black household, 16-year-old Micah is preparing for something he would rather avoid: singing a solo at Sunday church service.

His grandmother has made it clear that he's going to be ready. His phone is taken away, his distractions are gone, and all that's left is Micah, his music, and the pressure of knowing that tomorrow he'll have to stand in front of a congregation and use his voice.

What begins as a simple weekend centered around a church solo slowly becomes something much deeper: a chance for two brothers to confront the distance that has grown between them.

Set in the neighborhood of a Southern Black family, the traditions of church, and the emotional language of gospel music, Brother, Sing, explores what happens when love is present but communication is missing.

The feel of this film creates a reflection of many black households to look into no matter where they are from. Each character represents someone we all know.

I want to tell a story that feels intimate, specific, and familiar.

The film is rooted in the complexity of Black American family life: sitting on the porch, being raised by grandma, music filling a home, and the unspoken ways family members show love.

As black boys and men, vulnerability is not always something we are encouraged to express openly. Sometimes love is there, but the language to communicate it is missing. This film gives its characters the space to be funny, frustrated, sensitive, uncertain, loving, and vulnerable.

We plan to film November 6–8, 2026 in Atlanta, Georgia, and our goal is to create a professional production environment where our cast and crew can focus on doing their best work and where every detail on screen feels intentional.

A major part of bringing this story to life is finding locations that genuinely feel like the world these characters live in.

Campaign funds will help us secure the locations needed to bring Grandma’s house and the church to life, giving our story an authentic and believable environment.

We want BROTHER, SING to look and feel like a professionally produced film.

Funds will help us rent or purchase any additional camera, lighting, sound, and production equipment needed to achieve the visual quality we're aiming for. We want the technical side of the film to support the story, not distract from it.

We believe the people behind the film are just as important as the film itself.

🏠 PRODUCTION DESIGN & SET

Funding will also help us create a thoughtful and professional set through wardrobe, props, production design, and other necessary materials. Our goal is to make every environment feel lived-in, authentic, and appropriate to the story we're telling.

🎬 POST-PRODUCTION

Once we wrap production, the work isn't over.

Funds will help us complete the finishing process, including editing, color grading, sound design, sound mixing, music, and other post-production needs necessary to deliver a polished final film.

Our vision for Brother, Sing doesn't end when we finish filming.

Once the film is complete, we plan to enter the film festival circuit in January of 2027 and share it with audiences, filmmakers, industry professionals, and organizations who may connect with what we're trying to say.

We want to give this film the opportunity to travel beyond our initial audience and open doors for everyone involved.

Ultimately, we're hoping Brother, Sing can become more than a short film.

Our original concept has the potential to expand into a feature-length story, and we hope the finished short can serve as a proof of concept for that larger vision. We also hope it can attract opportunities for distribution through major streaming platforms and other avenues that allow the story to reach a much larger audience.
