Bubbles is a proof of concept short film about a female sniper that is the best of the best. She is as fearless as Die Hard’s John McClane; fierce as Maximus in Gladiator; and just as poised as James Bond.

Mission Statement

Bubbles was born from scarcity; a need to resurrect the classic action films of the 80's and 90's filled with nostalgia and escapism while simultaneously filling a void in the stories of women. Bubbles exists in the way that we have allowed male characters to exist: unapologetically.

The Story

Family, Friends and Future Friends,

Let me start by thanking you for taking the time to read what will be an enthusiastic, passionate, and genuine appeal to consider contributing to our project Bubbles.

They say write what you know and who am I not to take the advice of those smarter than me. Turns out however, that what I know comes from movies and television that I loved growing up. Action movies. Comedies. Buffy the Vampire Slayer. These influenced me more than any other subject matter and frankly, is far more interesting than my own life.

Wondering Why?

Bubbles was born out of necessity. After watching a marathon of action films, I noticed a distinct lack of women. Now it isn't news that there is a lack of female action heroes, however even within the few female action heroes that exist, there are tropes that are a bit tired. All of the women are either abused(often by men), cold, skew toward a traditional masculinity in their interests or demeanor, or oddly enough, they are Russian ballerinas who have been sterilized and can no longer have children.

Because of these tropes, there are very few stories that follow a woman that is an assassin or fighter because it's what her skills and interests have led her to. It is hard for audiences to see a woman in that position without assuming that she was taught to be that way or is seeking vengence against the man who abused her. As someone who is impassioned by seeing the hero continuously stand up no matter how many times they are beatened down, I simply wanted to see a woman do the same.

Given the current landscape of films and the doors that have been opened in the last ten years to women led films, I think this is the right time for a film like this. Many of the conversations I have with other women revolve around wanting to see more of our stories that more accurately reflect our interests and experiences. The world is filled with women that are strong and capable and I see no reason why film shouldn't reflect that without explanation.

On top of my hope to tell the stories of strong women, I hope to tell the stories of women of color whenever possible. In the same way women have been defined by their gender, women of color have the added restriction of being limited by their race. Actively choosing to create stories that break barriers is the only way to be a part of the change.

Bubbles tackles these oppressive themes while wrapped up in the fun of a good old-fashioned action comedy.

Movies are entertainment after all.

Now for the How!

We are a team of highly experienced film makers. Lucky for us, we have powerhouses like Amy Depaola running the ship as our line producer. She will be our lead in covid testing crew before working and arriving on set, ensuring all necessities like food, water and bathroom facilities are in place long before crew arrive, and ensuring that our budget, your contributions, stay on track! Jeremy Eisener is not only our Oscar-winning(seriously) Sound Mixer but he has worked on some of the biggest films in the last ten years. As an IATSE union member he is there to advocate for our crew and ensure their safety! Dan Bartolucci's experience in making things look their best should not be taken lightly! He is a major player in making Bubbles, a low budget short film, look like a major motion picture.

Please consider contributing to our short film and help us - if we do this right - create something that is both entertaining and impactful.
