Mission Statement

capital g great is about wanting to be, well…Great. Meadow claws at this empty prize because she believes she will finally be worth something if she is seen by the world as “Great.” But what our story is trying to tell you is: You don’t have to be Great. You don’t have to be anything but yourself.

The Story

In today's Hollywood wasteland, the delusionally ambitious cinephile Meadow believes her life will be complete if she becomes the greatest movie director of all time, so when an unknown benefactor offers her $4 million IF, and only if, she makes a web series…about herself…will Meadow tell a story with a team of friends and finally face her ego OR forever remain a reclusive control freak on an island of herself?

Our anti-hero Meadow strives to realize her convoluted vision for the web series, sending her down a spiral that could drive everything she has ever loved out of her life.

This is a dramedy web series spanning across 10 episodes at 15 minutes a pop! Our tone is goofy, absurd, and surreal. The themes we focus on are Ego, Agency, Vulnerability, and Love!

We hope that when you watch capital g great, that you laugh. We hope you see yourself in Meadow. Because you want something too. You want something just as badly as Meadow wants to be the next big film director.

We want you to want Meadow to choose the future that is right for her and for those she loves, to take a step back and care about the people around her and not just treat everyone like dolls she plays with.

Like Meadow, we all have agency in our lives to choose the route we believe is best in the long run. Anyone who loves love, anyone who loves movies, anyone who has a dream can love this story.

Hi! Echo here. After all those drama-thrillers I directed, I’m finally ready to express myself through my art the way I express myself when I talk to people. Sure, I’m a dramatic person, but I’m also goofy, and I rely on humor to get through pretty much any situation. I wanna challenge myself and make a comedy with the people I cherish!

I want to play with the form of filmmaking. Let’s transcend the boundaries between movies, TV, YouTube videos, and TikToks. That which we call a rose by any other word would smell as sweet. And let me tell ya! This web series STINKS! GOOD.

I’m introducing myself to you with capital g great. I’m saying, “Hi, my name is Echo Nguyen. I want nothing more in the world than to make movies that inspire you to do whatever it is that’s calling you, to give you courage and strength to go forward.”

I see myself being a part of the storytellers of our future. And I can’t do that without also telling you: I see that I have weaknesses and places where I need to grow. I can hold myself accountable by telling you what I think my problems are, telling you what my values are, and showing you how I’m going to take action to change and learn to be a fuller person.

Meadow is a movie fanatic who believes she is Alfred Hitchcock reincarnated. She’s a reclusive screenwriter and a tyrannical director. What a combo! Meadow wants to break into the industry with her feature directorial debut yesterday.

The only problem: she doesn’t have the money to make the movie. So, when ? offers her $4 million on the stipulation that she makes a web series ABOUT HERSELF, she devotes her entire life to helming the project.

Meadow wants to go down in the books as a capital g GREAT artist. At her core, Meadow loves to inspire people to follow their dreams, but you shall see if she puts ambition above those who believe in her…

Anastasia is the heart of our story. She is a social butterfly with a tender heart, and she oozes star power. Her dream is to be a leading lady on the silver screen, the one who carries the story, no matter how demanding the role.

She knows in her bones it will happen, so she doesn’t rush her journey. When the in-universe web series (“How I am Become God”) begins production, Anastasia is tasked with playing the lead role of Meadow’s self-insert character: “Echo” (it’s about to get really meta in here…ya with me? :)).

Oh, and did I mention Anastasia and Meadow are dating? I’m sure that won’t lead to any problems..

Faith is a whole grown adult who does her laundry, hangs out with friends, and, get this, she even makes time for her passions. And she has a lot of them from karate to welding and even saving wildlife.

Let’s just say Faith has her shit together...well, until Meadow asks her to produce “How I am Become God.” Faith wants to make the project the best damn thing on the internet, but she also wants to maintain her sanity while doing it. We’ll see how that goes.

Faith’s main prerogative is taking care of the people who make up the cast and crew, but when her business partner is a deranged self-proclaimed creative virtuoso (Meadow,) how will Faith keep the ship afloat?

capital g great is a web series about a web series about a web series, and so forth. Inside of capital g great is “How I Am Become God,” and the characters in that show are Echo and Marina. capital g great, although it’s silly at first glance, is a personal story about, well, myself. I hate Meadow, and I love her; because as she’s my child, she’s also me.

This story is deeply vulnerable to the issues I’ve had in my life as a filmmaker, a romantic partner, a daughter, and as a person. I’ve used capital g great to explore my neuroses through my love language: filmmaking.

And if you wanna know if any of it’s true, you’ll have to talk to me after you read this Seed&Spark!

A major part of capital g great’s storytelling is its cartoonish tone! But there are also cartoon elements sewn into the fabric of the show. About 60% of Episode 2 is meant to be fully animated, and throughout the show, there is hybrid animation: think Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World where animation interacts with the live action environment and characters :)

Visual effects and motion graphics bring capital g great to life as the artists create new worlds for Meadow and the gang to step foot into, especially deeper into the show as the stakes rise and we enter the more surreal arena…OoOOooh…?

At the present moment, there is a serious lack of lesbian representation, let alone trans lesbian representation. And we're here to change that!

The main romance in capital g great is between two young women, played by two trans actresses. The representation in our show is full of love, insecurity, and depth. The romantic relationship between Meadow and Anastasia is messy, but it’s real. And on their own, Meadow and Anastasia are both complex and flawed women with misguided desires and pure hopes.

We believe that people who want to see women loving women on screen will feel seen, especially trans lesbian women and those who love them.

Truthfully. What I (hi, it’s Echo again!) want most out of capital g great is for a little kid who loves movies to stumble upon the show on YouTube and see themselves in it, and after that, see that they can make something like this if they want to. Because while they’re watching, then, they’ll know they can. This kid will also know it’s okay that they were looking up “pretty girls kissing” on Incognito mode..(because same..)

capital g great is perfect for an LGBTQ+ audience! So, they’re our primary demographic! The LGBTQ+ community represents a significant and growing audience with substantial value. Their power, engagement, and loyalty make them an essential group not to be underestimated.

The trans &/or lesbian communities are eager for nuance representation of their lives on screen! And that’s exactly what capital g great has in store. More on representation: Anastasia is a driven and conflicted person, and her transness plays a major part of who she is and how she navigates the world.

Next! Gen Alpha & Gen Z. capital g great is internet-y and hyper-aware that it is a web series on YouTube. It is meant for people who were raised by the internet. That goes to my generation: Gen Z who grew up with a family computer you couldn’t rip them away from and Gen Alpha who..let’s be real..y’all are iPad babies (no shame).

Last and certainly not least: capital g great is made for our fellow cinephiles and filmmakers. The show is a love letter to cinema and television. It is chock-full of movie allusions, references to TV shows, and esoteric jokes about famous movie makers. Anyone who has ever loved movies or has worked on them will either be curious or hit with a wonderfully terrible sense of relatability.

There is a lot of dynamic camera movement in our show that is motivated by the characters’ actions and emotions. Like fun push-ins, tracking shots, and body cam shots. Which you get a peek of in the concept trailer!

Further, Anthony, the director of photography, and I love a subjective lens. This means we’ll be seeing the world through the eyes of our characters (usually Meadow).

And we cannot forget a major part of cinematography: lighting! We love incorporating a healthy amount of shadow into our image to showcase the beauty and darkness of life. Yin and yang.

capital g great’s production design style makes the world a colorful cartoon! It’s clear as day the environment of capital g great is a painted and fabricated stage. As this is how Meadow sees life: everything is a movie. Everything is a performance. Everything is a story. Aren’t we all just players on a stage?

A recurring theme of capital g great is its unstuck-in-timeness. Although it takes place in the modern day, it feels nostalgic and vintage. Simultaneously, it feels like it’s in the future.

Meadow’s sense of fashion is 1960s mod. Think Austin Powers, Scooby Doo, and Megan in Mad Men. Anastasia takes on a dancier, late night look from the 70s, similar to Cher. Faith embodies the sporty 1980s with looks that take inspiration from Princess Diana and Whitney Houston. With all of these different eras on screen together, we feel that this is a timeless story that happens all the time.

After each episode of capital g great is edited with animation and VFX included, as well as sound mixed and colored, the producers will spend a year submitting the series and/or the pilot to all of the major film, TV, and web festivals such as Cannes, Sundance, SXSW, Shorty Awards, and Streamy Awards. Once we have received word back from each festival, capital g great will be free to watch on YouTube for all to see!

We are aiming for the YouTube channel (my personal account that I have been posting on since I was 6 years old) to already have a built-in audience, cultivated by our brilliant advertising team headed by Mayela who has been uploading behind-the-scenes content about the making of capital g great.

This will grow viewership and subscriber count for the YouTube channel so that when capital g great is released, we will be able to monetize the episodes and earn revenue from the viewers watching the ads. As of right now: we have 1.2K watch hours within the last 12 months, 3.86K subscribers, and 37K views on the concept trailer!

Like the TV shows we grew up with, one episode will be released per week. This will happen for nine weeks straight, with the exception of the first two episodes which will premiere together as a pair.

After capital g great lives on YouTube for a year and gains traction, we would love to pitch our show to streamers such as Max, Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and Apple TV+ with the intention of licensing the rights with residuals to our above-the-line cast and crew.

Sounds like everyone’s gonna wanna watch our little web series...

If you would prefer to have a tax deduction, please contact the producing team at [email protected].

Our web series is partnered with The Chimaera Project, a 501(c)(3) public charity created to support films created by women and nonbinary people.

This fiscal partnership allows for private investors to claim a deduction on their tax returns. The Chimaera Project holds 8% of the donation, and capital g great receives 92% of it.

In addition to investing and grants, we will create a Seed&Spark page (you’re looking at her), a powerful crowdfunding platform designed for independent filmmakers that boasts an impressive 80% success rate.

Seed&Spark will bring in many smaller donations, most likely in the ranges of $10-$2,000. Backers will receive exclusive tiered perks such as early screenings, set visits, and behind-the-scenes content.

If you decide to donate, your money will go into one of the categories under "Wish List". We cannot make this web series without YOUR HELP!

You will receive the amazing prizes listed on the incentive that matches your donation level.

Please note that all percentages and prices translate from our $50,000 Seed&Spark crowdfunding goal. Our total crowdfunding goal is $150,000 which will be spread out across three different crowdfunding sites (consecutively, not simultaneously). The category amounts you see on “Wish List” do not fully translate to what is needed for budgetary goals.

Nguyen-Nguyen Pictures is my (hi again) production company! I founded it in September of 2024 in preparation for capital g great.

Nguyen-Nguyen Pictures is dedicated to producing groundbreaking and badass stories as well as fostering a safe and fun environment for everyone on the team. I hope for it to grow and grow, even after I’ve hit the end of my reel.

I credit my dad with coining the name. Because, as he says, when he’s with his girls, (that’s my mom and me) it’s always a Nguyen-Nguyen situation. So, there ya go ;)
