The Story
This project is an idea i've had for a few years now. I am such a huge fan of the Christopher Guest Mockumentaries and have found comedic influence from those films and several other comedy gems for my own writing.
Internet singing sensation Casper The Singing Dog travels with his mom Pam all around the country, staying at pet friendly hotels and experiencing their amenities as well as what local pet friendly establishments have to offer.
Casper and Pam perform for weary travelers during the hotel lobby’s cocktail hour and at the end of their trip, they review their stay on their viral blog “CASPER HAS OPINIONS”.
In the sizzle reel we meet hotel staff and travelers who are exposed to the odd entertainment that Casper and his crew bring to the table... or lobby. While writing their reveiw on the hotel, Pam and Casper reflect on their time in this new place, meeting new people and performing new material. Throughout the series, and through a series of interviews, Casper and Pam meet with real hotel staff at real hotels. Combining a mix of actual travelers and skilled comedians/improvisors, the show takes on the flavor of a docu/mockumentary that combines elements of a fun and exciting real life travel show with scripted comedy.
Casper and Pam travel with Casper’s Security Guard who makes sure he remains safe at all times, even when there’s zero threat to his safety. They also travel with their opening act Carl, a burnt out comedian who’s in it for the free room and board. Taylor, their anxious, OCD agent/manager, is always trying to paint an optimistic sun over a rainy day. Morgan, their biggest fan, follows them around the country and makes sure they have a front row seat at every show.
Audiences will love when Pam and Casper sing together and the quick and witty dialogue between the core road trippers. The show, and simultaneous running blog, will also inform its audience of the best and worst Pet Friendly places to stay at when they themselves travel with their own pets.
WHO: Casper and Pam fans are the absolute best. We are hoping that this reaches all of you and you can see the potential that we see in this project. We're looking to raise $10,000 to make a solid sizzle reel where we could pitch this show to different networks, investors, producers and get it picked up as an actual series! If we're able to make $30,000, we'll film the whole pilot ourselves!
WHY: There's nothing like this on TV and I strongly believe Casper and I found each other in order to make people smile, entertain the ears (And deafen them occasionally) and honestly make a difference. I get so many incredibly messages from people who comment on how much joy Casper has brought to their lives during the hardest of times. We want to continue doing this and spread the joy to wider scale. With my writing and comedy background and Casper's good looks and talent... we're an unstoppable team.
WHERE and WHAT: We have a solid sizzle reel script. We have a solid pilot script. We've got an incredibly talented and fun cast ready to go and a gifted crew who sees the vision of this show and can't wait to execute it! We've also confirmed all our locations as well as equipment! As soon as we reach our halfway mark ($5,000) our plan is begin production meetings asap and start filming on May 2nd.
We take COVID very seriously and will have a Covid Compliance officer on set who will be responsible in collecting negative test results 24 hours prior to the shoot as well as providing PPE for everyone on set. Only approved personnel will be allowed in the area the day of shooting. That includes cast, crew and hotel staff.
