The Story
Hey there ! Welcome to our fundraiser for Castle in the Skai, a very special short film about a gender fluid young adult dealing with mental illnesses.
We are raising $6,000 to cover the cost of production (i.e. set design, location fees, transportation), with a stretch goal of $11,00 to cover post production cost ( i.e. editing, hardrives & film festival entries)

Castle in the Skai is a take on the battles that members of the LGBT community face with mental health issues. Set in 2019 (pre covid), our protagonist, Blue, a gender fluid individual battles through her struggles with the mental illnesses she has. During her daily morning routine, Blue meets Skai, a masucline presenting female who is “new” in town. The two instantly fall in love. They go on many dates and spend all their time together. Until a couple months go back and Blue’s parents visit her out of nowhere and Skai disappears. Blue learns some unsettling news about Skai that has her questions her entire life.
We want to being light to the mental health community and let those who are suffering know that they are not alone. There are many resources out there and people who you can talk to, to get the help you need.
This film was also set back heavily due to the pandemic. We were set to shoot last year March but the pandemic stopped that from happening. Now that things are semi normal again we want to bring our film to life and we need your help to do that. We had to make major actor cuts to fit with COVID-19 film protocals. We also plan to have a full COVID-19 staff and PPE on set too ensure we are meeting all guidelines and rules.

My name is LeNia Samuels (She/hers) and I am a masculine presentingAfrican American Independent Filmmaker based in Washington D.C. and Philadelphia. I am a student producer at Temple University whilst earning my Bachelors of Fine Arts in Film and media Arts with a concentration in producing. I aspire to producer feature films where I am able to see them from Pre-Production to Screen. I am hoping to produce films that focus on issues within the LGBTQ+ community and mental health issues. Through storytelling and featured films I wants to produce relatable content to share with everyone. Thank you in advance for you support.
