The Story
Meet creator and writer of Catching Fireflies, Flynn Faye!
Flynn Faye (he/him) is a Brooklyn-based folk singer-songwriter originally from Santa Cruz, CA.
Flynn dreamed up this project back in 2020, drawing inspiration from his own experiences living with a group of creative queer friends in Philly!
Since in conception, this show has seen the light of various readings and workshops, cabaret shows, a concept album, and its first fully produced production at The Players Loft Theatre in NYC in January 2025!
The story follows our main character Willow who gets stuck in Philadelphia during the 2020 lockdown on her way to New York City. She is leaving behind her old life in California to pursue her dreams as a songwriter, but also to look for a new life where she can explore her questions, curiosities, and feelings she has been suppressing. Questions about who she really is, who is the different person she sees in the mirror, and is she capable of becoming who she wants to be?
The show opens on Willow and a her new group of young and queer friends at a Waffle House at 2am, just moments before the pandemic shut-down, all collectively realizing how precious time is and propelling each into their own exploration of love, past trauma, sexuality, and identity.
Through intertwining love triangles and questioning of common queer stereotypes, each artist achieves a new perspective on the lifelong adventure of connecting to authenticity. The show closes with Willow transitioned to Wilder, ready to move on with a new identity and live as his true authentic self.
LOUDLY & PROUDLY, A TRANS & QUEER STORY!!!
At it's core, this story aims to reach the ever expanding and growing queer community. Wherever you fall on the LGBT spectrum; if you're out and proud or building up courage, if you're fully transitioned or just beginning to transform, if you are queer, or a supportive ally, and if you are an artist of any kind, this story is for you.
We are a team of proud LGBT+ members, who are excited to bring a fresh take on queer love and exploration. We're excited to tell personal stories that resonate with us and audiences of all backgrounds and identities.
Our total crowdfunding budget is $15,000.
We are working with an incredible & large team of hardworking artists. If we are able to raise this amount, this will ensure everyone involved with the project is compensated fairly. It will also ensure an easy & smooth rehearsal process. We will be able to have a set, props, and costume pieces that are high quality and tell the story to the best of its ability.
Finally, it will help pay for the fees for our run at...
The Drake Theatre in Philadelphia!!!
We were accepted into the official Cannonball Open Call for Artists at this year's festival and they provided us with The Drake, an 96 seat intimate theater, with 4 nights of performances and we will be receiving 100% of the profits of tickets sold!!!
Here is a breakdown of our dream budget for the festival:
In order to have our show go on, we have a skeleton budget of $15,000. This will ensure that the show will go on, with wages covered and fees met. Our dream budget is $31,000, which will cover additional production costs and provide more cushion to wages, travel and transportation, and rental costs.
There are so many additional ways to support our show and our work! Do you have any friends or family who might be interested in supporting our show? Do you have a business that may be able to help us? Do you have other resources that can bring our show to life?
