The Story
What do you get when you combine a slasher flick and a musical comedy in some unholy experiment? Lend Me A Chainsaw—a bloody, bawdy, and wildly entertaining whirlwind where horror tropes meet showtunes, and everything goes deliciously off the rails.

Six friends set off on a road trip to a lake house the summer before their senior year, blissfully unaware it was the bloody site of a chainsaw murder spree last year.
MEET THE FRIENDS

- KEVIN (he/him; BIPOC, Black preferred) — queer, typical all-American college junior, seems like he might play sports but not be an asshole about it, Sam’s long-time partner
- SAM (they/them; any ethnicity, BIPOC preferred) — flexible gender (non-binary/trans inclusive), patient, clever, and sarcastic, Kevin's long-time partner
- KAT (she/her; any ethnicity, BIPOC preferred) — classic "final girl", down to earth, smart, probably a virgin
- CHAD (he/him; any ethnicity, white preferred) — sort of douchey frat-type, not really part of the group anymore, but Kat invited him
- JESS (she/her; any ethnicity) — the sexually adventurous one, Nick's girlfriend
- NICK (he/him; any ethnicity) — always joking, just looking for a good time, Jess's boyfriend

Now, for one weekend only, I’m partnering with MusicalWriters.com to assemble a dream team for the definitive production that will launch this show into theatres everywhere. With your support, Lend Me A Chainsaw will carve out its rightful place in the musical theatre canon as the next great Halloween tradition.

OK, BUT WHY?
There aren’t many theatrical horror musicals at all, and the few that exist are usually adaptations or parodies. Lend Me A Chainsaw is the solution: a show that embraces the camp and fun of the genre while flipping familiar tropes and centering voices we don’t usually see or hear in horror.
Since its first performance in 2022, local audiences have braved the bloodbath and come back for more; we’ve already cemented Lend Me A Chainsaw as an annual event in Dallas… Now it’s time to take this musical to the next stage: transforming Lend Me A Chainsaw into a piece of theatre that can spread beyond our community to stages everywhere.

WHY NOW?
This year’s production isn’t just “another performance”, it’s a benchmark. Everything must be professional, precise, and true to the script so licensing houses see exactly what this show is and why it’s worth championing. We’ve brought together a dream team of artists—performers, musicians, designers, and technicians—who are giving their time and talent for this one chance to make it happen. We’re seizing this moment, and our Seed&Spark campaign will supplement the MusicalWriters.com Productions budget to ensure we can invest in the professional videography, photography, and production quality required for licensing and distribution, so theatres around the world can present it to their audiences.

MusicalWriters.com Productions, 2022
Every dollar pledged directly contributes to our efforts to secure global licensing for Lend Me A Chainsaw.
Our crowdfunding goal represents the bare minimum we need to prepare Lend Me A Chainsaw for licensing consideration. Funding beyond this goal will allow us to produce a professional studio cast album, strengthening licensing submissions and paving the way for release on music streaming platforms.

MusicalWriters.com Productions, 2022
By supporting this campaign, you’re not just donating—you’re joining a movement to give musical theatre something it desperately needs: a scary, campy, inclusive horror musical that deserves a permanent place in the canon. Help us take the final step in a 15-year journey: transforming Lend Me A Chainsaw from an independent musical into a licensed work that theatres around the world can produce.
