SNEAK PEEK OF A CHINATOWN GHOST STORY!
A string of brutal murders in Chinatown remains unsolved. When Jasmine Yee, an NYU freshman studying photography and journalism, opens her door to a Jehovah’s Witness girl, she had no idea that moments later, the girl will be dead—and that she’ll be pulled into a dark mystery that no one wants solved.
But Jasmine isn’t just facing human dangers—she’s haunted by the ghost of Bow Kum.
Think Jordan Peele’s Get Out meets Bong Joon-ho’s Okja.
Bow Kum, a Chinese slave girl murdered in NYC Chinatown in 1909. Sold as a child in Guangzhou, she was auctioned off in San Francisco to a gang leader from New York’s Chinatown. When he was imprisoned, Bow found a new life and married a rival gang member—only to be hunted down when her former “owner” was released. She refused to return to him, and for that, she was brutally murdered. Stabbed multiple times in the heart and her fingers severed. Her death ignited the bloody Tong Wars on the infamous streets of Doyers and Pell.
Now, over a century later, Bow’s spirit warns Jasmine that the killings have started again.
Jasmine Yee
An NYU freshman studying photography and journalism, Jasmine struggles to distinguish between reality and the supernatural. Haunted by Bow Kum’s ghost, she begins to fear she’s losing her mind. But as the murders in Chinatown escalate, she realizes the only way to survive is to uncover the truth—before she becomes the next victim.
People don't realize that Chinatown in New York is over 120 years old and there are many untold stories. Bow Kum was known as the Helen of Troy of Chinatown, yet today we don't know her story.
As a native New Yorker and Chinatown resident, I want to make a movie in the community. Everyone that is a part of it has a special tie to Chinatown.
