Mission Statement

Come Back is an intimate short about a child growing up in a family affected by addiction. It brings an often unseen perspective to the screen, capturing the quiet loss of childhood with honesty and care, and creating space for empathy and recognition.

The Story

Set in 2001, Come Back follows Samantha as she wakes to find her mother and father never came home. As the day unfolds, she searches for answers while clinging to better times. As the hours pass, phone calls and memories begin to reveal the cracks in her family’s fragile recovery. Told through a child’s eyes, Come Back captures the moment innocence ends, and the lifelong mark left by a parent’s neglect.

A Day That Changes Everything

"SAMANTHA: Mom didn't come home last night.

JASON: Are you sure?

SAMANTHA: Yes, I'm fucking sure!

JASON: Just chill the fuck out, Sam."

What We Will Hit On

Come Back is a character-driven narrative; grounded in lived in experience about what addiction does to a family, and the end of childhood. It will deal with themes of lost childhood, addiction, and generational trauma.

Innocence Lost

"SAMANTHA: Are you okay?

LISA: I'm fine, baby.

SAMANTHA: You always say you're fine,

but you're not. How can you be fine?

LISA: I know Sammy, but you don't need to

worry about me"

Tone and Visuals

The visual approach will be intimate relying heavily on handheld camera and close-ups. The camera focuses on Samantha's face, eyes, and hands as a way into her inner world. The film will use proximity to create emotional closeness with her and create a sense of isolation. The color palette will be cool to reflect the early 2000s setting and the emotional distance of the story.

Forced to Grow Up Too Fast

"SAMANTHA: How could you do this mom? I know he's

a fuck up, but I counted on you. You were

supposed to be here for me."

Come Back Prequel - Episode 1

Film Comps

Come Back will have tonal inspirations from films such as White Oleander, Moonlight, and Too Leslie. Blending isolation, neglect, fear, and emotional instability told through a child's eyes.

Producer, Writer, Director

Tiffany Bromley

I am approaching 10 years in the film industry, with a background in Visual Effects and Acting, but my passion has always been storytelling. I recently transitioned out of Visual Effects to pursue Producing. This story is incredibly important for me to tell. We often see stories about the addict themselves, but very few are told through the eyes of the children they leave behind. These children grow up carrying the weight of experiences they did not choose, often without the tools to escape them. Through this film, I want to bring awareness to their struggles and show the world that what happened to them was not their fault. Many are never taught otherwise. I want the world to know them; perhaps with awareness, we can help them create the futures they so deserve.

Why Now?

According to statistics, 1 in 4 children live with at least 1 parent with substance abuse disorder. Children of parents with SUD are 75% more likely to end up in Foster Care; after leaving at 18, have arrest rates of 70% by age 26, and are 8 times more likely to develop addiction in the future.

With Your Help!

By contributing to our project, we have some awesome incentives for you! Anything from the playlist I listened to when I wrote it, to featured supporting credit on the film. These contributions will go a long way for us. They will help us get the location for our 3 day shoot, rent the lighting and camera equipment we need to bring our vision to light, feed everyone on set, pay our cast and crew, and rent an AirBNB for homebase and an extra shooting location. We need roughly $7350 in total to get this film started, and with your help, we can do just that.

About This Team

I am working in conjunction with Off Cedar Productions. A great team headed up by Alex Ramirez, Joel Barragan, and Albert Sida. They have produced music videos and horror short films including InVoked, Feasting, and Your Chariot Awaits. They have been a great asset to the team as they have helped every step of the way from honing the script to building the crew, checking the location with me, and helping build great incentives for our donors. We work really well together and will give you the best film possible.
