The Story
The Concept
The initial idea for Crazy in Love was borne over 10 years ago -- two people with multiple personalities fall in love but their recessive selves hate each other and become hell-bent on breaking themselves up. It's crazy, it's funny and it's totally unique.
Since then it's been developed as a feature film, a TV show and most recently a web series. The show's first season, released in 2018, marked the first few real steps for this insane show and its rich characters.
One of the advantages of imagining this story playing itself out in different mediums is that no idea has gone unconsidered. As a result, the web series features a tightly-structured plot which is sweet and sarcastic and surprising and funny. The audience won't be able to predict what will happen to these four disparate personalities from season to season.
Nearly all situational comedies fall into familiar tropes: workplace, family, odd couples, etc. Crazy in Love's concept is totally unique. It's Sybil blended with Spy vs Spy, Fight Club reimagined by the Farrelly brothers or Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde as a romantic comedy. In short, Crazy in Love has the ability to entertain, elicit an emotional response and generate laughs in a totally unique package. It's a storytelling hole-in-one.

The Web Series
One of the great advantages of producing a web series is that it forces the writer to boil every story down to the barest of essentials - the short format dictates that each episode feature a strong beginning, middle and end delivered in roughly five minutes. There's no filler because there's no time. When Natalie & Vincent have an idea to do something evil to Colleen & Carl, we see it fail almost immediately (spoiler alert!). Short attention span theater has never taken so little time.
Season One was all about the set-up. We quickly established each of the main characters - Natalie, Vincent, Colleen and Carl - and then made clear to the audience the central dilemma each couple faces: Colleen & Carl are broken people who struggle to connect with each other while Natalie & Vincent despise every moment they're together. The first season - which spans six episodes and covers 30 minutes of screen time - introduced us to the central conflict of the series: one couple attempts to come together while the other tries to break them apart... all while only two real people are involved!
Season Two is where the real fun begins. Natalie & Vincent spend every moment they have trying to break up their dominant personalities. Colleen & Carl, on the other hand, are very much in the honeymoon stage of their relationship. Can doubts be planted in their dopamine-fueled brains which'll blossom into a breakup? Will their fragile egos wither and fray at the first sign of conflict? Or will true love survive mental illness?
Every television show has a set-up which leads to the rest of the series: Crazy in Love's set-up is in the rear view mirror. Now comes the truly fun part!

About This Team
Crazy in Love's super powers are the talented professionals who make our show a reality. Care to take a scroll?

Monica Engesser (Natalie/Colleen) is just crazy enough to be a perfect fit for both Colleen AND Natalie. She's an LA based actor with a penchant for bringing the unusual to life and making people feel better about themselves. She's mostly starred in horror and suspense films ("The Covenant," "The Conduit," "Kidnapped Souls") and was stoked to have minimal screaming and no fake blood involved for this project. When not on set, Monica hangs out with her husband and 3 yr old, does introverted stuff and teaches kids how to swim. www.monicaengesser.com

Patrick Roman Miller (Trinity Trio) has been away from the acting thang for a bit and is excited to be part of “Crazy in Love” to blow out the cobwebs and dress up a bit. He has an MFA from UC San Diego and a BSEE from UC Irvine. That second degree was a bit of a lark! Patrick appeared in a number of now-cancelled televisions shows: “House,” “Cold Case," "ER," "Sabrina, The Teenage Witch," “Action,” “Dragnet,” “The District,” “The Agency,” “DAG” and “City Guys.” His likely favorite was opposite Jeff Goldblum and Lake Bell in a television movie, “War Stories.” He also co-wrote and co-produced the short film “9mm of Love.” He's appeared in a number of theatrical productions at The La Jolla Playhouse, San Diego Rep, South Coast Repertory and The Mark Taper Forum. Katie Eleneke (cinematographer) was introduced to photography by her mother through the gift of a camera. Her love turned into a career when she worked as a photojournalist, a sports photographer, and as a print marketer over a span of 5 years. Michael Slovis’ work on AMC’s “Breaking Bad" captured Katie’s imagination and in 2014 she moved to LA to pursue a future in film. She graduated from Cal State Northridge with a degree in film and an emphasis in cinematography, while working in the industry as a first AC and camera operator. Through an internship program, Katie was fortunate to find an avenue through Sony Electronics that helps keep her up-to-date with cinema and broadcast technologies while helping support, train and teach on Sony cameras such as the F65, F55 and most recently the Venice. When Katie is not on set as a DOP, she works as a camera support engineer with Sony. After school, she continued to work in camera for shows and features but eventually moved into lighting to bolster her communications skills with her grip and electric crew. In 2016, she found that she loved working with lights and electricity and began working as a gaffer and continues to do so, while also working as a Director of Photography. www.katieeleneke.com

She is makeup director and official makeup sponsor for Phoenix Fashionweek since 2010 and has worked under Becca Cullati for LA Fashionweek. She has also worked Mercedes Benz Fashion week NY with the Napoleon Perdis Team under International Creative Artist Rebecca Prior. jessicafierro.com

Lyle Weldon (writer/director/executive producer) has written for primetime television dramas and comedies as well as animated and live-action family TV. He's optioned screenplays, been hired to rewrite others, created television and web series and had two of his feature scripts published as novelizations by Aisle Seat Books: The Coven and Twice Upon A Time. He took time off to raise his two incredible daughters and, as a result, can now hang with both Scotch-drinking dads and tea-sipping mommies (who drink harder stuff than tea).
