The Story

In the 1970s, a year after the initial Roe V. Wade court ruling, aspiring journalist, Jeanne, (based on real life events of the Writer’s Mom) struggles to qualify for a credit card in her own name after her hippie husband-up-and-leaves her in the middle of the night to raise their child alone. Jeanne decides to turn her struggle into a news story in hopes that it will make her a professional journalist, and that the story will help other women. We follow Jeanne navigate her relationships with her Mom and best friend Barbie, as well as the patriarchal workplace of her local newspaper. CREDIT is a cross-generational story that balances humor and raw tension while exploring themes of activism, friendship, allyship, motherhood, and standing up for the truth. If the single-mother struggle of Erin Brockovich, the investigative journalism of All the President’s Men, the fight for women equality of Good Girls Revolt, and the complex character relationships and dynamics from Lady Bird speaks to you then you will love this film!
WHY US, WHY NOW:
From the Writer herself

The story of CREDIT came about as I thought about the repercussions of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in 2022. As women in America, we had the right to our bodies before we had the right to independently open a credit card. Roe v. Wade came to be in 1973 and the Equal Credit Opportunity Act was passed in 1974. I began making the connections to the family-lore of my mom, Jeanne, raising my brother on her own in the early 1970’s after her husband abandoned her in the middle of the night.
I then wondered, if they’ve taken away the right to our bodies, what will they take away next? CREDIT reminds us what we still had to fight for after the initial Roe V. Wade ruling and that there’s “more work to be done”. CREDIT shows how the fight to expand rights for one group helps all. As the Equal Credit Opportunity Act forebode discrimination not just on gender but race, sexuality, appearance and more. In 2025, the Trump administration has made efforts to weaken these financial protections. CREDIT emphasizes that change can be made if we stick together, use our voices, resist oppression, create a strong community and advocate for ourselves and each other.

Though this is a period piece, it doesn't mean our world is far removed from the plights of these characters. We're living in a time where crimes are not dealbreakers, mercy is criminalized, and the abhorrent is tolerated. For us, this feature film is everything. It's a culmination of our work building this story and these characters over the last 3 years, our dream of kickstarting our own careers in our desired professions, but more importantly its a promise and a warning to every audience member of the inequitable times generations before us fought to make better. This film is our passion project not only for our careers and personal art, but it's our activism.
These funds are for development yes, because our budget is 1.6 million. But make no mistake, this film is getting made. We've secured quotes, we've selected our Lawyer, and we have a Line Producer and Casting Director on standby waiting for the green light once these funds hit the our account. These funds will help us do this the right way, get it into the hands of the right people, and get it made well so the masses can see it's important message.
