The Story
Marta B. is the bathroom attendant at a NYC nightclub. At the end of New Year's Eve night, she eavesdrops on two friends in the midst of an argument about their after party plans. Sharing makeup becomes the vessel for a meaningful connection between the women.
The Characters
Marta B., late-60's, has lived many lives and is bursting at the seams with stories. Glamour spills over from her days as a performer, where she was no stranger to turning the heads of men. Her outward confidence is often interrupted by self-deprecating comments about her looks and age.
Niamh, mid-20's lights up every room she walks into, with a big smile and an easily digestible personality. A “cool girl,” gentle, and maybe a bit too trusting. Conditioned from a young age, she draws her self-worth from the attention she receives from others, mainly men.
Tatum, mid-20's, is the best person you’ll ever be blessed to meet. She generously gives advice but won’t be afraid to give it to you straight. Her lack of a need to people-please puts off most men, who usually find her best-friend Niamh to be an easier aim.
The Location
NYC Nightclub - With Marta B.'s personalized bathroom attendant station.
Directors Statement
As a young person, I will never tell this story the same way I will now. The story spawned from a woman my best friend and I met at a music festival, the real life Marta. Her openness about her changing appearance encouraged me to explore and dissect my own fears I had about aging. With all the scary things that can happen to your body as you get older, why am I so worried about wrinkles?
The competitiveness thrust upon women can drive a wedge between some of the most powerful friendships. I know, because it’s happened to me too. We tend to emphasize what makes us different from the rest, rather than treasuring what makes us all one and the same.
While some experiences may be distinct to womanhood, the overall journey of aging is universal. What we lose and gain, regrets, wisdom, and the things still left to learn. We can all hope to stick around long enough to see our skin give in to gravity and time.
Fundraising Goals
Our goal is to reach $7,000 to meet our production needs. This will help us cover costs of securing a location, equipment rentals, production design and most importantly to take care of our incredible cast and crew (much of our post-production costs are in kind donation). Anything you're able to contribute takes us one step closer to bringing this story to life. Spreading the word and sharing with your network will help us to gain traction. Text, email, re-post - Whatever you can to get the word out.
Thank you so much for your support!
