Mission Statement

CRY EAT CRY explores the emotional vulnerability of crying and how societal pressures shape our response. As a Taiwanese immigrant, I reflect on the cultural clash between emotional restraint and openness. This film says it’s okay to cry—embracing vulnerability as a powerful, human connection.

The Story

Our Story

Cry Eat Cry is a dark dramedy inspired by films like Poor Things and The Lobster, blending surreal storytelling with raw emotion. The film explores themes of vulnerability, authenticity, and resilience in a world where public crying is a criminal act. This is a deeply personal story for us, born out of a desire to challenge societal norms and spark meaningful conversations.

The original production was funded by the generous support of close friends and family who believed in us and this vision. Their faith allowed us to bring this unique narrative to life, and now we’re excited to share it with the world.

Current Status

We’ve successfully completed principal production and are now in post-production, collaborating with a talented team of editors, colorists, and sound engineers to perfect the film. While there may be a pickup day or two remaining, the majority of the production is complete.

Our Goal

This campaign is about more than just completing Cry Eat Cry—it’s about ensuring this story reaches its full potential. The funds raised will cover the costs of post-production, including editing, sound design, and color grading, as well as marketing and submission fees for next year’s festival circuit.

We aim to amplify the film’s impact and use it as a stepping stone toward developing a feature-length version. Everyone who supports us becomes part of this journey, and we’ll keep you updated every step of the way as we bring this story to audiences worldwide. Thank you for believing in us!

Synopsis

Evelyn, a 23-year-old woman, grapples with the loss of her father through a series of colorful ceremonies of eating. Each ritual involves the use of specific colors, foods, and actions to process her emotions.

The story begins with Evelyn returning home from a bike ride, preparing for a ceremony infused with the color red to symbolize her anger. As she immerses herself in these rituals, Evelyn confronts her past, her memories, and the intense emotions tied to them.

The narrative unfolds with Evelyn meticulously preparing for her ceremonies, each one marked by a different color and corresponding emotion. Through these acts, she navigates her grief, from anger to a bittersweet happiness.

Evelyn’s relationship with her father is revealed through touching flashbacks, illustrating the profound impact he had on her and her struggle to reconcile his absence in a society that forbids crying in public.
