THE STORY
After being the only one in the group chat not invited to a mutual friend’s mom’s funeral, RAE WEISS broke down crying in KERA MCKEON’s car. They asked “Do our friends hate me? Am I a bad person? Am I allowed to be mad about this?” The two quickly decided that the answers were “no,” “no,” and “definitely not.” Nevertheless, they desperately wanted to explore a world in which the answer to all three was a definitive “yes.”
CVNTS is a 7-episode satire web series about two wannabe influencers stuck in LA traffic on their journey to ascend from the Z-list to the D-list. They're determined to appear perfect online, but turn the livestream off and you'll see that you can't FaceTune your personality forever — or even at all. It's Gen-Z BROAD CITY meets a Notes App Apology from a celebrity you've never heard of.
WHY THIS STORY?
In 2025, your social media is expected to align with your “personal brand,” whatever that means. For Weronika and Sara Faye, the only place they can be themselves is in the car. We get an uncurated view because there’s no camera. To their knowledge, there’s no audience for them to perform for. CVNTS is a look into the profoundly bleak and shallow, yet incredibly frivolous and fun world that “career influencers” find themselves in.
The main fundraising goal for CVNTS is to pay everyone working on this project a fair wage. We’ve both had to pass up projects due to monetary reasons (from writing a 15-episode sitcom for “exposure” to being paid $20 to bring and use a $400 makeup kit), and we want to make sure the reason people don’t want to work on this set is that they actually don’t want to work on it.
We have blocked out days in Summer and Autumn 2025 to film our entire season, allowing the team to continue with their day jobs while working on CVNTS. Post-production will begin in Autumn and continue through Winter 2025 (with a goal of two edits per episode – one horizontal for festivals and YouTube and one vertical for Instagram and TikTok), with our first episode being released early 2026.
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
To me, CVNTS puts up a mirror (a black mirror if you will) to the worst aspects of the internet’s dazzling allure of fame, a loyal following, and, yes, free stuff. They say art comforts the disturbed and disturbs the comfortable, so if we’re putting my degree to good use, I’d say CVNTS is here to comfort your inner cunt — you know, that little part of you that likes to claim the moral high ground in a facebook comment section, re-post an unresearched instagram infographic, and fantasize about rear-ending the guy who just cut you off.
We’re here to give you a little time to reflect on your inner cunt and know that at least you aren’t trying to monetize your worst qualities. (We are though, so please! Give us your money.)
THE CHARACTERS
Weronika is self-assured, self-absorbed, and self-obsessed. She wants to be the wokest in the friend group, because that would mean that she’s the most correct and therefore the best. Smart, but uses her high IQ to curate the perfect feed and come up with the most biting insults rather than making any real social change.
Sara Faye moved to LA from Pennsylvania when she turned 19 and has never once looked back. She’s a convenient punching bag for Weronika, but Sara Faye can and will give as good as she gets. Her main goals in life are to get her follower and like counts as high as possible, hang out with her best friend Weronika, and maybe (just maybe) find some sort of purpose.
Brooke is an angel. If she thinks the world revolves around her, that’s only because it actually does. The other two girls have put her on a pedestal, and, in true frenemy fashion, can’t wait to knock her down. Brooke is the Regina to Weronika’s Gretchen and Sara Faye’s Karen, and she’s just unfollowed the two of them on Instagram.
THE BUDGET
We've finished pre-production on CVNTS. Now, for production and post-production, we need $13,500 to make CVNTS. Most of this will go to locations, production design, camera & G&E, and paying our crew!
Anything more that we raise goes towards the following STRETCH GOALS:
If we raise $14,000 we will be able to submit CVNTS to festivals. This project can only be as big as it's reach, and while our distribution plan on Youtube and TikTok has legs, by submitting to film festivals we can really share the good word of CVNTS with the largest audience possible.
If we raise $15,000 we can license music for CVNTS. We can get a real theme song and get music to play in our cvnts' car!
If we raise $15,500 we can have an advertising budget for CVNTS. Hashtags on our sosh meeds is good, but it doesn't compare to paid promotion.
And if we raise $17,500 we can get a, and I’m not kidding, REAL BILLBOARD to ADVERTISE CVNTS. Weronika and Sara Faye's season one goal is to get on a billboard, and with your help, Rae and Kera can too.
MEET THE TEAM
Kera McKeon
Writer/”Weronika”
Kera McKeon is no stranger to chaos. She was raised by her agoraphobic mother, “musician” (unemployed) father, and a rotating cast of loudly libertarian relatives. Desperate to escape the mess, Kera took up a string of odd jobs from kids acting coach, to Disneyland costume librarian, Hooter Girl, Renaissance Faire sausage wench, and (despite her belief that influencing is cringe) a TikToker. She has a B.F.A in Writing for Screen and Television from the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts and currently works as a Motion Picture and Television Literary Assistant at Paradigm Talent Agency. As one of the only members of her family without a DUI, Kera writes about underdogs who are dedicated to rising above their station.
Weronika is the version of myself I actively have to suppress. Vapid, self-centered, and self-righteous — all things people totally know I am, but I keep it enough on the down-low that we can pretend I’m not.
Rae Weiss
Writer/”Sara Faye”
Rae Weiss is a writer, comedian, and podcaster born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. Originally, they got their inspiration making fun of the things they hated about themselves, but after getting on a hefty dose of Lexapro they had to find a new well to draw from. Now, Rae writes about dysfunctional and toxic but loving families who stick by each other, even when they’re at each other’s throats. They got their B.F.A in Writing for Screen and Television from USC, and are a UCB-trained improviser and sketch comedian.
As someone who grew up pimple-y, kind, and smart, Sara Faye is everything I secretly wished I was — pretty, mean, and dumb as rocks. If she’s based on “the other Rachel” (who I was desperately jealous of) from 12th grade Marine Bio, no one tell her.
Campbell Moore
Director
As a director and editor, Campbell Moore is passionate about women and queer centered stories told with a lot of heart and a healthy seasoning of humor. Campbell’s past directing work includes her films Welcome to Celibacy Club, Encoded in Me: a visual poem, and Kinship and Matrimony: An Anthropology of the Selkolla. Welcome to Celibacy Club premiered at 2023 Outfest Fusion at TCL Chinese Theatres and had its international premiere at FilmPride Brighton & Hove Pride's Official Queer Film Festival.
Campbell graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Southern California with a B.A. in Communications and a minor in Entertainment Industry. She was a member of Delta Kappa Alpha professional society at USC.
Nadine Lampe
Producer/1st AD
What do you get when you cross a theater kid with a control freak? Nadine Lampe, apparently. Hailing from the lovely suburbs of Philadelphia (Go Birds), Nadine is a stage actor and producer with a passion for “weird-girl cinema.” Previous works include a lucrative career in school news, from a humble beginning as a founder of the morning news station at MSJA to a critically* acclaimed showrunner for Trojan Vision’s The SCoop, as well as writing and producing the short film Highly Unusual Methods. Nadine graduated from USC with a B.S. in Accounting and a minor in Cinematic Arts.
*critics include Professor Jared Hoffman, producer Danny Harris, and writer/showrunner Melinda Hsu.
Becca Hochman
Production Designer/”Brooke”
Becca Hochman is a Production Designer, AD, and Producer. This means she likes films that 1) look good and 2) run smoothly. Her previous work includes This Is My Place, Sharkmate, and Her Majesty’s Lice.
Pieter Markus
Director of Photography
Pieter Markus is a cinematographer based in Los Angeles with experience on features, shorts, commercials, and music videos of all styles. His favorite on-set hobbies include spilling drinks on the camera cart, getting mistaken for Jack Quaid, and generally embracing the jank. His cinematography has received several awards from various film festivals and other organizations. He graduated summa cum laude from University of Colorado with a BFA in film production and minor in philosophy.
Zach Archie
Gaffer
Zach is a filmmaker originally from Denver, CO. He lives by the mantra “born to grip, forced to direct” and can usually be found by the c-stands. He commonly works with character studies focused on how the little moments can be a huge change in someone’s life. He finished with a BFA in film production from CU Boulder.
