Dara is both a chaotic but sincere look at life as a small business owner and a deeply unromantic love story. It explores what happens when fundamentally good people make mistakes, or lose themselves in the pursuit of a goal, all set in the underrepresented world of professional pet care.

Mission Statement

To bring together good humans to make good art in a bad time. Dara began as an insatiable need to create and laugh and persisted as a channel for self reflection, an opportunity to fairly pay artists, and dogs.

The Story

DARA keeps going on dates that never go anywhere. Her best friend, WOZ, thinks she needs to change up her approach. Her therapist, BECKETT, thinks she’s not trying hard enough to make time for dating.

She does her best to break down her dating failures in therapy, but seems to repeatedly come away with the wrong lesson. When even an attempt at hiring a matchmaker doesn’t seem to turn up what Dara is looking for, Dara confesses to Woz that she is specifically looking for a date to bring to the annual pet sitter conference, not wanting to attend another year on her own since her break-up with her former business partner and long term girlfriend Morgana, who will also be there.

When Dara’s plan appears to be less innocent than she originally made it seem, Woz confronts Dara about her decision to drag other people into her scheme, and Dara, anxious not to be stopped so close to achieving her goal, lashes out, sending Woz home with a slammed door in their face.

After Dara’s well laid plans turn into a public fiasco, she struggles with the emotional consequences of the last few months. Guidance from Doc Beckett and a desperately needed reconciliation with Woz help Dara realize that she can forgive herself for her missteps and move into the future with the intent of becoming a better person, but with the understanding that she has some work she needs to do on herself before she’s ready to pursue any real relationships.

In early May 2026, we produced three scenes from the third episode of our show ("Game, Set, Dog") to release as a proof of concept with this campaign! Join us on June 12th - our star Gemma's birthday! - at 8PM EST here for when it drops on Youtube! We could talk about our goals and intentions until we were blue in the face, but we wanted to be able to show people what this show could be. We are so thrilled with the final product, and the crew we assembled to make it happen, and feel all the more confident moving into production for the full season knowing the talent and skill we have on our team. We don’t need to spend any more time searching for the crew that can fulfill our vision, we’ve got ‘em.

While this campaign is not set to help us produce the entire first season, there is an entire first season already written and ready to shoot. We have ten episodes, filled with dating and dog hi-jinx, some unintentional drug use, a colorfully wild dream sequence, an urgent care visit, and a conference filled with real-life pet care business representation (and maybe even featuring some well-known faces from the pet care industry). While we are hoping to continue past season one eventually, our final episode is written with enough closure that, should it be the end of Dara, you won't be left unsatisfied - though we're sure you'll still be wanting more.

Our first goal is set at $20,000 - with that, we will be able to begin production for season one, filming at least the first and second episodes! We have some stretch goals set that will take us further into production for season one, and with $40,000, we would be able to complete filming the first five episodes! That would bring us to a perfect mid-season break while we begin post production and raising funds for the second half of the season.

We've been incredibly lucky to have many small businesses in Dover and the surrounding towns who have donated their locations toward hosting fundraising events and actual filming spaces for the show, as well as lending costumes and props! This, on top of the fact that Devon and Fury do not require pay for directing, editing, producing, writing, acting, social media, composing, etc, has significantly reduced the cost of the show!

Here are the ways you can help us bring Dara to life!

Pledge on Seed & Spark

We need to hit 80% of our goal to get greenlit and keep any of it, please help us get there!

* Offer an In-Kind Contribution

Do you have a location, gear, food, or some other service that can help us during production? At the end of production, we’ll send you a crew wrap gift and add your name in the special thank you credits of each episode!

About This Team

Devon Padley - Director, Producer, Co-Writer, Actor (Dara)

Devon is an actor and all-around human from New Hampshire, who also owns a real Pet Care Company. And yes, the illustrious Gemma is her actual dog. There's enough about her throughout this that she doesn't feel the need to share too much more here, but invites you to check out Playing with Fire, the last film she campaigned on Seed and Spark for in 2018.

Fury - Editor, Co-Writer, Actor (Woz)

Fury works remotely from rural Maine as a video game developer professionally, and as a good few other things recreationally. Their cats Allegro and Presto are not as talented as Gemma.

Hunter Anderson - Cinematographer

Hunter Anderson, a Director of Photography located in Southern New Hampshire, is driven by a passion for visual storytelling and cinematic techniques. With a background in theater, she infuses each project with a unique vision. Her cinematography style is known for its whimsical and vibrant qualities.

In 2021 Hunter graduated from Keene State College with a Bachelor’s degree in Film Production and a minor in Spanish. Since then, she has immersed herself in the Boston film industry. Her passion for storytelling and collaboration not only fuels her creative endeavors but also cultivates meaningful connections within the film industry.

Skye Turrietta-Walls - Assistant Director

My name is Skye Turrietta-Walls! I'm an 18-year-old filmmaker from Portsmouth. I aspire to be a director of my own films, but overall, my love for film drives me to be a part of as many amazing projects as possible. In many roles on many sets in any way I can! In the many sets I've been a part of, very few have had such a thoughtful and amazing support and crew as Dara does. I'm so excited to see where this project goes and even more excited to be a part of it!
