Mission Statement
The Story
Day Bi Day is the story of Josie and Seb, a pair of bisexual besties who share a singular brain cell, studio apartment, and full size mattress. Platonically. Josie is an aspiring cinematographer and Seb is an aspiring actor. Emphasis on aspiring. Even as they spend every day toiling in the hell of capitalism and cis-heteronormative Hollywood, the friends and community they have around them really make it all worth it. But...even the closest of friends can only do so much when you live on the hot mess express.
Seb and Josie, being in their 20’s, are of the firm belief that the best ideas come to them while drunk, and after a day of professional and romantic rejection, they decide to make a pact to get their shit together in six months or they’re dragging their asses back to their hometown of Lincoln, Nebraska. The series takes place mostly halfway through their bet, with each of them finding success in either love - OR career - but neither of them are truly satisfied.. And they may or may not take it out on each other...

How Ryder Dunagan and Tara Jenkins met:
We met 4 years ago on a USC MFA film that Tara was producing and Ryder was starring in. The film went nowhere, but our friendship certainly did. We decided, over mimosas of course, to write together and bring characters to life that reflect not only our lives, but our friends'...stories we don’t usually see portrayed on TV with accuracy and humor. DBD also became our love letter to our chosen home, Los Angeles.
The false starts for Day Bi Day:
In the four years since we wrote the first draft of Day-Bi-Day, we’ve attempted to shoot it ourselves using just a couple of friends. In that time, we lost our footage, went through a possible production deal that came to nothing, and, you know, a whole global pandemic before we finally said “fuck it." We decided to stop waiting and just make it ourselves. (Thanos voice: “Fine, I'll do it myself.”).
Reflection:
● It was important for us to make DBD with people from our queer community and our chosen families. On our terms. Which meant respecting our crew and cast by utilizing an intimacy coordinator, paying everyone, (even though we couldn’t pay full rates), and trying to make DBD a community project as much as possible. In production, this is where the majority of our budget went. We are proud of the way we filmed the series, and want to bring that integrity into post.
● We couldn’t have done it without our community. We reached out to friends, family, and called in a lot of favors, but our team truly went above and beyond in helping us shoot 57 pages in 6 days. We're still in shock that we managed to do all that. We had an incredible director and producer, who are absolute superhumans and made this whole shoot happen.
Now we're asking for YOUR help with this final push! We did the hardest part (the PRODUCTION) and we did it in 6 days! Our last hurdle is post-production and the process is intrumental in making this series come to life how we imagined it, in all its authenticity. What we need the funds for:
- Editor and Audio Mixer - A good editor is so important in achieving our artistic dream for this series. The wonderful editor we've found has a partner who does sound mixing. So we're getting a great two-for-one sorta deal and are so excited to see the final product from them. In indie filmmaking, audio mixing can be somewhat overlooked. Not by us. Having a smooth, flawless sounding series is incredibly important for us to accomplish.
- Motion Graphics - Technology plays a big part in these characters' lives. Cell phone use is abundant; graphics appearing on screen; moments with screens etc. This is no easy feat, as it takes an experienced VFX artist to accomplish this.
- Hard drives - We have people working on this series from all parts of the country...and this requires multiple, expensive hard drives to be shipped and delivered.
- Festival submission fees - We have a slew of festivals we want to submit this series to. Every festival has a submission fee and it all adds up fast.

About This Team
RYDER DUNAGAN (he/him) is one of the co-creators and co-stars of Day-Bi-Day. He's a proud bisexual trans man working toward more accurate LGBTQ+ representation in media. By day he works as IT department head of Travis County Exchange Corporation, and by night he spends his time playing Dungeons and Dragons, bingeing the latest fantasy TV show with his 2 cats, and writing draft 8000 of his latest project. Since moving to LA in 2018, Ryder has worked on numerous productions, including The L Word: Gen Q, Netflix's 'The Upshaws', and Nickelodeon's 'Danger Force'. Tara and Ryder began working on Day-Bi-Day in 2018, and in 2021 the script was selected as a Second Rounder in the Script Competition at the 2021 Austin Film Festival.
TARA JENKINS (she/her) is a queer multi-hyphenate based out of Los Angeles. She is passionate about giving a platform to stories from the margins. She is a proud member of IATSE Local 600 and a staff writer at American Cinematographer magazine. She has her MFA in Film Production from USC, where she fell in love with camera work and also met her writing partner, Ryder Dunagan. Together, they have worked on Day Bi Day for the last four years, including making it to the second round of AFF with the script in 2021. Tara’s work as a writer and director won her film Lemon Cake the Audience Award at the Da Vinci International Film Festival in 2020.
ARIEL ZUCKER (she/they) is an LA-based writer, director, producer and former Hebrew School teacher from Atlanta. They believe the most important stories are the ones we are most afraid to tell. Ariel is currently a 2022 Gotham TV Expanding Communities Fellow and season producer at College Humor Media. In 2017 Ariel earned a B.F.A. in Directing from the John Wells Directing Program at Carnegie Mellon University. Their directorial work and writing has since been recognized by Outfest, AT&T Film Awards (New Forms of Storytelling), Screencraft Playwright Competition (Special Mention), Huffington Post, NBC Out, Parade, Glamour UK, Hollywood Reporter, People, Afropunk and Variety. She recently won the Best Experimental Film Award at Women's Voices Now Film Festival and is a PGA Innovation Award Finalist.
NARINEH TAHMASEBIAN (she/her) is an award-winning writer, director, and actor. A proud Armenian-American and Los Angeles native who’s committed to telling original stories. Along with a B.A. in Literature from UCLA, Narineh has been a two-time AFF Second Rounder, Top 15% in Nicholl, Screencraft Top 10 Finalist, Female Voices Rock Finalist, as well as a Semi Finalist with WeScreenplay, The Script Lab, and ISA. She is an Indie Fest Winner with one of her short films and has been featured on Coverfly’s RED List; whohaha (Elizabeth Banks’s comedy site for women); and read by NakedAngelsNYC. She is also a member of SAG-AFTRA and the Alliance of Women Directors. She’s thrilled to be producing a series like Day Bi Day with such a wonderful team.
