The History

23 years before the beginning of this story, a cluster of strange meteors(later known as "Synergems"), fell to Earth, giving any human that came into contact with them superpowers. These superhumans were given the name "Deities", and after suffering persecution from the humans that feared them, the Deities banded together to fight back. In the United States, a group of Deities led by Tyson Kovacs took over half the country and renamed it Valhalla, the country of the gods.

The Inciting Incident

Now, after 14 years of peace, a threat to Valhalla emerges from within in the form of a young girl named Skylar, who has the ability to remove Deity powers. The tragic end of a rescue mission has left Tyson on edge, and fearing her ability, Tyson orders a young government official named Connor to bring her into custody. However, Skylar is like family to Connor, as she is his best friend Eric's daughter. When Connor attempts to bring Skylar in, Eric and Skylar flee, causing Connor and the rest of the Valhalla government to chase after them.

As Connor and his team track Skylar across the country, Skylar and Connor learn more about the significance of their powers and the importance of compassion. But Connor's loyalty to Tyson and his commitment to saving his country prevent him from putting Skylar's life before the other Deities'. It would take a life-altering event to persuade him to drop the search, and because of that, Skylar must continue to flee until she's out of Tyson's reach, or Connor changes his mind.

The Author's Inspiration

I've always loved how the best superhero and manga stories merged fantastical plots and abilities with compelling conflicts driven by relatable people. The aspect of seeing one's self in a superhuman character is what makes the stories enjoyable, and I have striven to create a multitude of characters with which the audience can find pieces of themselves. And at the end of the day, I've always loved a good fight scene, and this comic promises to deliver that as well!

An Adventure for Right Now

As division continues to persist in our world, I want to tell a story that's not only an escape from the negative circumstances surrounding us, but also a story about uniting together and overcoming obstacles as one loving, cohesive entity. Much like all of us, the Deities are strongest together, and when the conflict over Skylar threatens to tear them apart, finding their way back to each other can save their lives and their country.

Building Deity Together

A successful campaign will allow for the completion of the first Two Chapters of Deity. 10 pages are currently completed, with approximately 60 waiting to be produced. As the screenplay on which Deity is based is already finished, the story itself has been outlined in its entirety. All that's left is to bring the script to life through the illustration.

After the chapters are finished, Deity will receive an ISBN and be made available online at Comixology, Amazon Kindle, and Apple iBooks. The First Chapter will be made available for free to raise awareness for the comic, but all contributors to the campaign will receive promo codes to access the Second Chapter for FREE. The physical copy will also be available for special orders.

Any excess funding will go to marketing and distribution. The goal is for Deity to have an exclusive website where readers can access the chapters directly, similar to the Marvel and Viz publishing models. Although the trend for comic reading has progressively moved online, Deity may eventually find a presence in physical bookstores and comic shops.
