The Story
Devil's Hollow is a Southern Gothic crime drama about an ex-con who's stuck on his farm with an ankle monitor.
When he learns his estranged teenage daughter is being threatened, he must make a choice. If he leaves the farm to save her, he violates his probation and the police will come after him. Can he get to his daughter before the cops get to him?
This project has gone the traditional "Hollywood" route, getting close several times to being made. But we don't want to wait another 5 years for all the pieces to fall in place. Unlike 5 years ago, today we have the resources to make an excellent professional film right here in Kentucky.
For a relatively low cost, we can produce a high-quality feature film. We are employing talented artists from the Southeast, from brilliant producers and crew to our lead, Tony Award-winning actor Shuler Hensley. We are providing jobs for regional craftspeople and boosting our local economy. We are telling a compelling and entertaining story.
It's a personal story for everyone involved, a story about the mistakes we make and the possibility of redemption.
I (Chris) wrote this film to be shot in limited locations while providing strong dramatic stakes and a ticking clock. Beyond entertainment, though, it's about the people I grew up with and the place I'm from. It's a uniquely Southern story, set in my home state of Kentucky, but the characters and conflicts are universal: people longing to connect, making mistakes, and pursuing second chances -- even if it costs them everything.
Here are a few behind-the-scenes pics from some test footage we've shot. You can see a sample of the scene, along with the actors discussing it, here. During Covid, we will be working with a small, socially-distanced crew, and following all safety guidelines.
There are many causes to which you can give your hard-earned money. Our world has a lot of needs. But we strongly believe one of those needs is story.
Especially in a time like ours, people are hungry for authentic new content. A movie can feed the soul, providing entertainment, catharsis, and hope. Now is the time for Devil's Hollow.
Movies aren't made by one person, they are made by a family.

Chris is a professional screenwriter and independent filmmaker based in Kentucky. A graduate of the Warner Brothers Television Writers Program, he has written TV and features for Fox, Cartoon Network, NBC, the Hallmark Channel, and others. Represented by Bauman Management in Los Angeles, he is a member of the Writers Guild of America.
SHULER HENSLEY, producer-actor
Shuler is a producer and plays the lead role of Bobby Hawkins in Devil's Hollow. He is an actor known for film and TV roles in Van Helsing, Odd Thomas, Law & Order, and others. He was awarded the 1999 Laurence Olivier Theatre Award for Best Supporting Performance of 1998 for his role in Oklahoma! He won Broadway's 2002 Tony Award as Best Actor (Featured Role - Musical) for his role as Jud Fry in a revival of Oklahoma!
KELLY SHIPE, producer-actor
Kelly is a producer and actor in Devil's Hollow. A native of East Tennessee, her work includes national commercials, film, theatre, and print. She co-produced and starred in the short film The Unforgiving Minute, narrated by Academy Award winning actor Viola Davis and directed by Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer. Kelly wrote, produced, and starred in the 2014 film Candee Noir that screened in New York City at the SoHo International Film Festival and The Raindance International Film Festival in London.
