The Story
In this psychological thriller, Avery Vaughn is a young woman seeking release and retribution for her childhood traumas. She enlists the help of Dr. Hubbell a questionable character with an unorthodox method, starring the talented Robert Picardo.
This short takes place in the style of a science-fiction piece similar to that of Black Mirror or a twilight zone alternate reality combined with a journey into revenge. With fake weapons, blood packs, and psychological preparation, the process provides a certain level of release. This is the “Immersive Retribution Trauma Therapy” program or IRTT. Through Avery, we are able to see in real-time how her past traumas have affected her and the lengths someone will go to make their oppressor pay for the long-term damage of their actions.
Although our traumas are a serious matter, the levity and the light in those situations are equally as important. We use elements of humor to shine a light on the grim and expose all elements in their truest form. All the while finding humor in the deepest moments of tension.
OUR STORY
The state of mental health in the United States has always been a controversial issue. But in recent years the discourse on mental health and therapy has become more widely accepted. With a larger platform for awareness, the conversation on trauma has really come to light.
Co-writer Patrick Andrew Jones has been in and out of therapy his whole life. Along his mental health journey, he became more and more curious about ways to dismantle his history of trauma. Through creative fiction, co-writers Rafael Jordan and Patrick Andrew Jones delve into a form of retribution that would allow a “safe space” to release our traumas and seemingly stop the cycle in its tracks.
We do not offer this story as a real way to solve our traumas but as a psychological look at how generations of trauma affect us and the actions we take to confront or release them.
TIMELINE
Right now, we are fundraising to meet production and post-production needs. June 3rd - 5th is production. We'll use June through August to picture-lock the film and submit it to festivals like Sundance, Tribeca, and SXSW from September 2023 through May 2024.

Robert Picardo as Dr. Hubbell
Bio: Robert Picardo was born on October 27, 1953 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, where he spent his whole childhood. He graduated from the William Penn Charter School and attended Yale University. He became involved in television, where he soon was nominated for an Emmy Award for his role as Coach Cutlip on the series, The Wonder Years (1988). Robert appeared in several other series: China Beach (1988), Frasier (1993), Ally McBeal (1997), Home Improvement (1991), The Outer Limits (1995) and Sabrina the Teenage Witch (1996). In 1995, he got the role of the holographic doctor on Star Trek: Voyager (1995), where he also directed two episodes.
About the character
Hubbell is the mastermind behind the therapy process. A man determined to create a viral sensation for the masses. He is a multi-faceted character willing to do whatever it takes to be the best and draw more followers to his practice.
Amelia Workman as Avery
Bio: Amelia Workman is an actress, singer, and writer in Brooklyn. She has originated many groundbreaking roles in the American theatre and helped reimagine several rarely seen theatrical masterpieces with award-winning playwrights and Tony-winning directors. Intellectual rigor and emotional honesty are a hallmark of her work and process. She has performed at and/or developed work for Second Stage, The Public, Lincoln Center, The Delacorte, Soho Rep, Yale Rep, Playwrights Horizons, The Atlantic, Signature Theatre, Ars Nova, and Theatre for a New Audience (selected). She debuted on Broadway as Kerry Washington’s understudy in American Son.
About the Character
Avery is a hyper-aware and intelligent woman looking for the retribution she deserves. She’s vulnerable and seemingly new to the experience, but her curiosity and commitment show a side that may surprise viewers in the end.
Patrick Andrew Jones as Clay
Bio: Patrick Andrew Jones is a New York City based actor, writer and producer and is thrilled to share this story with the world. He is interested in telling stories about outsiders, addiction, mental health issues, cults and more through a darkly comedic lens. He recently received his MFA from the American Conservatory Theater and has worked extensively in theater, commercials and film. Select credits: ART/NY, The Lark, Hudson Stage, The Brick, The Kraine, SF Playhouse, Capital Rep, Pacific Rep, Berkeley Rep, ACT, Livermore Shakes, Teatro Delle Due (Italian tour), The Food That Built America, Empires.
About the Character
Clay, a reenactor who helps patients enact their retributions in a role-play situation. He plays the cheating husband, the ex-boyfriend and all in between that allows patients to take their aggression out in a simulation catered just for them.

About This Team
The Team
It was important for us to have a team that reflected the characters and the unique style of the film. Immediately co-writer Patrick Andrew Jones enlisted the help of Village Park Productions a brother-sister duo who specializes in grim comedy and satire. As Black creators they knew exactly what story was being told and the people to involve. The first person who came to mind was our Director Michelle Beck for her keen eye and aesthetic for the hyper-realistic supernatural in her work "The Snakes." From then we wanted to bring in a diverse crew from all backgrounds and representations. It was paramount for us to build a cast and crew that reflects the industry we want to work in.
