Mission Statement
The Story
Dreamers at the Precipice is a psychological ensemble piece composed of contemporary dreams, the inspirational life of Charlotte Beradt, and her work The Third Reich of Dreams. Her book documented the dreams of ordinary Berliners from 1933-1939, illuminating how authoritarianism infiltrated not only their lives, but their very dreams. Charlotte Beradt was prophetic in her decision to archive these dreams. She bravely smuggled them out of Nazi Germany, before eventually having to flee herself.
As psychotherapists in today’s rising tide of authoritarianism, we saw parallels in clients’ dreams with those collected by Charlotte in Nazi Germany. Influenced by her work, we organized a monthly “Dream Group,” to collect and archive participants’ dreams, and to offer a gathering wherein we freely discuss the effects of the current cultural and political polarization on our psyches. The group became a creative catalyst for us, the playwrights, to write Dreamers at the Precipice. We learned from Charlotte Beradt that dreams are historical documents, and by using dreams our play preserves and bears witness to these toxic times. We hope to awaken audiences to the glaring absence of decency today, and offer a possible way out of polarization. WE CALL FOR DECENCY!
Here’s how you can participate in the inaugural production of “Dreamers at the Precipice:” the AWAKENING TO DECENCY project! Whether you are a theatre lover, a history buff, or someone who is looking for a way out of polarization, our play is an essential antidote to the toxicity today. The play is in full production mode and we have an exciting schedule this summer, culminating in our PREMIERE performances October 2026.
Our schedule is intentionally structured to open before the midterm elections on November 3rd, 2026. Our focus on the midterms is to encourage people to vote for decency and not for further polarization. The more audiences we can awaken before these elections, the sooner we can change the tide of how we treat one another in our country. Here is a breakdown of our schedule:
- Fundraising begins NOW! We are actively fundraising in an effort to secure our theater and other costs.
- The play has begun rehearsals, with a phenomenal cast, which will continue throughout August and September.
- August will focus on developing the multimedia aspect of the project (our “Chorus”), as well as a strong marketing push.
- In late September we have a full week of rehearsals, culminating in matinee and evening performances in October 2026.
Any funding we secure over our initial budget will be used towards additional performances. The project is written to reflect current events, and can be staged with updated executive and legislative challenges and effects on dreamers.
In a world of such increasing extremes, where our own dreams alarmed us to the state of emergency we are living in, "Dreamers at the Precipice" synchronistically came into being. This play is a call to sanity and decency that we feel is imperative to share with as many people as possible.

Our table read fit in a NYC apartment, but now rehearsals take up SPACE as we start blocking the show. This adds a hefty cost to rehearsals.
Playbills and Misc
Costs $200
The "bits and bobs" category of the budget. It will cover playbills, cash on hand, and miscellaneous expenses.

We are two New York City based psychotherapists and writers.
