Mission Statement

Many Mexican families have someone who struggles with addiction and they don't know how to talk about it, so let's talk about it. These brothers will push past the stereotypes of oldest, middle, and youngest to potentially connect with their father one last time. A film about how to move forward.

The Story

ALL CONTRIBUTIONS ARE BEING MATCHED UP TO $1,000 FOR THE FINAL WEEK! LET'S REACH 100%

Driftin’ on a Memory is a dramedy about Drew, the oldest of three Chicano brothers, trying to force his father back to rehab after he has a bad relapse at a lonely bus stop. Drew shows his father an old photo of when they were happy together at the batting cages, hoping it's enough but with the help of his two brothers, Ben and Jeremy, Drew learns that something has to give or he'll lose everything. This is a very personal film about loving people in your life who struggle and what that does to your other relationships. These characters mourn but also welcome their future. It is loosely inspired by a real event that the writer/director experienced but it might be something plenty of people relate to. "Someone once asked me if I'll get a tattoo to pay respects to my late father but telling this story is how I'll do that."

THE THEMES

Brotherhood

Three Brothers who come together after being disconnected for a long time.

Addiction

A father who battles his addiction but cares for his boys.

Chicano Love

Whether it's the lowrider oldies Dad showed them or the way they talk, these characters wear their culture with pride.

THE WHY

This short film breaks down a lot of topics that are not discussed in the Latino community and those Latinos who have read the story emphasize to us "This is a story that needs to be told- especially for us". Latino families are very prideful and will do anything for each other, sometimes that causes tension. The Mexican men in this film are not what you're used to seeing in other films, they look and act different from each other, representation that matters.

THE LOOK

Think Beautiful Boy meets Iron Claw but you know, with Mexicans.

THE NEED

¡Tenemos que pagar por todo esto! Cameras cost money and so does paying actors and crew! We've broken down the cost and every dollar you contribute will go straight into making this film a reality. We're hoping to have the cast and crew be primarily Mexican-American but we want to ensure we pay everyone right! We've got a script ready to go into production and a crew that's eager to get started pero we need some money to get started! We're hoping to start principal filming in May!

Once we reach these amounts we can start each of these steps!
