Hi, I'm Eileen :) It has been my dream since I was a little girl to make an action movie. Growing up, I watched Casino Royale on repeat and promised myself that one day I would make a film like that.
But once I entered the industry, I quickly learned how inaccessible action filmmaking can be. I was told, “You have to make a car video to direct a car video,” as if the door could never open for me. Unlike my male counterparts, I wasn’t given the same opportunities. With the weight of the model-minority myth, I was often perceived as quiet, not the type who would ever be interested in drifting or action. But that is exactly what fascinates me.
Drifting, like filmmaking, is pure escapism. These female drifters, in particular, are redefining what the culture means. That is the story I want to tell.
When I first pitched a car project as a music video, I secured funding and connected with Alexis Ormonde and the DK Ladies League. Her story instantly drew me in. But a week before filming, the funding was pulled, and the project collapsed. That moment was pivotal: I realized I had been trying to fulfill my dream on someone else’s terms.
We refuse to wait for permission.

Alexis Ormonde, who runs DK Ladies League, formerly known as Drift Kitchen, was founded in 2018. She is a welder by trade and hosts monthly drifting events on the East Coast. We’ve been in touch since 2024. The documentary will follow her journey as a drifter and the founder of the community.
(still from our teaser)
Through on-the-fly interviews and portraits, we will capture what it means to be part of the DK Ladies League and why it’s so important for them to keep driving.
(These stills are from our initial shoot at the first female drifting event on the East Coast.)

Your support will help us cover production expenses, crew, equipment, travel, all the way through post-production. We are currently in early production and plan to shoot in New Hampshire in May and Connecticut in September. We will move into post-production in early fall 2026. The target completion date is January 2027, followed by a festival release and community events throughout 2027 and 2028.

The project aims to shift perceptions of women in motorsports and other traditionally male spaces, highlighting the determination of these female drivers to create community. It seeks to inspire young women and underrepresented voices to pursue their passions without waiting for permission.
By amplifying the impact of the DK Ladies League, the film encourages other women to start their own chapters and expand this growing community. By following a community centered around the DK Ladies League, Drifting with Fire reveals how these women build community to foster the whole point of the sport: to have fun.

We plan to have screenings that coincide with drifting events to tie everything back to the community.

Eileen Yoon's directorial work explores the harmony within the dualities of her life: her passion for crafting striking, surrealist worlds that remain intimate, her experience as both a director and a cinematographer, and her multicultural background. She loves the ocean and is always trying to get as close to flying as possible.
Eileen’s work has been in notable festivals, including CAAMFest and New York Asian Film Festival, and screened at the Barbican in London and the Museum of Moving Image. Her short, Chimera, won the student grant award from the National Board of Review and premiered on NOWNESS Asia. She’s worked with clients such as Samsung, Apple, Universal Music Group, and Nike.
Lou Wang-Holborn is a Chinese-American producer. Her feature documentary CHINATOWN CHA-CHA had a successful theatrical release in China, grossing $220,000 at the box office, and is slated to release in Europe and North America in late 2025. Lou is producing the feature documentary IRIS CHANG: POWER OF ONE, a co-production of Kartemquin Films and recipient of the Zhao-Chen Family AAPI Voices Fund. Lou’s work has screened at Cannes, Tribeca, Toronto International Film Festival, Busan International Film Festival, CAAMFEST, New Directors/New Films, and more.
Renee Nabinger, our cinematographer, has worked with brands such as Samsung, Levi’s and Net-a-Porter, and with notable talent including Amanda Seyfried, Greta Lee, and Emily Blunt.
