The Story

Cadulbrockt Craid is a prisoner of war aboard a reclamation wagon, a massive machine that roams a frozen, war-torn world, fertilizing the toxic land.
It's his last day of imprisonment. Mycologist Malta Neftift, a fellow prisoner, approaches him with a plan that is both illegal and potentially world saving. But he has no interest in helping her.
Though a secret from his past may leave him no choice.
This short is a proof of concept for our limited series Bitter Ground Broken and is extracted from the first sequence of the pilot episode. With this film we will be able to garner interest from studios and other filmmakers to bring this story to the screen!

In this tale of reckoning we present an extreme experience shrouded in the ashes of an apocalypse in which a man must find the strength to become good again. With a unique universe and set of characters, we aim to present a new lens through which to view our own world.
Ekelbrode centers around environmental issues, the rise of fascist governments and powerful corporations. These topics are important to us because we are living in a time of great change. Against a backdrop of huge disparities in wealth and power, we worry over the cost of food and shelter, the threat of war, corruption and an ever-increasing number of natural disasters. All setting the tone for our own slow-burn apocalypse. We’re scared and we’re angry. We want to tell a story about it, analyze it, and find a fraught human story within it.

The world of Ekelbrode is bleak, centering on an industrializing society reminiscent of American steel towns or 1890s England. Color is rare. Design favors function over form. The effects of biological warfare have made things like wood a priceless luxury. Plastic, metal and mycelium are the building blocks of the surviving cities. Yet within this dreary landscape, humanity still shines through. This is where you will find the beating heart of our story.
This setting is inspired by the unapologetic perspective of Come and See, the stylized grit of Peaky Blinders and Daniel Plainview’s industrious quest for power in There Will be Blood.

Fully aware of the limitations of our resources, we specifically crafted our scenes to be practical and small. We know our team and we know how incredibly talented they are, so we have full confidence that together we can channel every penny onto the screen.

Most of this fund will go toward production costs including cast and crew, gear, catering etc, as well as fabricating a believable and immersive world with high quality props, sets and visual effects. We will need to create bespoke weapons, tools and costumes that suit our world. We will supplement these with military surplus items that complement our aesthetic.

Post production will play a huge role in developing the look and feel of the story, specifically sound design and scoring as well as some VFX for the opening vista shots. Please also check out our wishlist to see what specific items we need to make this film happen!

Being taken from his original home by child protective services and placed in a highschool film academy allowed him to understand and reconnoiter the art of filmmaking. It was here that Samuel began to refine his thematic habits with politically ambitious horror films.
