The Story
Liam is a 20 year old college student, who despite his liberal upbringing and mindset, decides not to vote in the 2016 elections. Although he somewhat supported Bernie Sanders, he now sees the political realm of the United States and the campaigns of both Clinton and Trump as one big “circus”. He is clearly opposed to Trump, but foresees an inevitable Clinton victory. When he becomes preoccupied applying for a teach-abroad program in Taiwan during election day, he feels comfortable skipping the opportunity to vote.
We follow Liam throughout the night of the election and watch as his decision begins to create rifts between friends and family. These people- particularly the women in his life- are equal parts stunned and angered upon learning his inaction. These feelings only intensity as Trump begins to build a unexpected lead in the electoral college.
In the film we will attempt to capture the different, conflicting sources of media and the changing dynamics felt between one another during what could be the most critical night in American history.
As the truth of the current state America dawns on him, Liam will have to face his mistakes and come to grasps with an ultimate decision: running away, or finally fighting for the people and causes he claims to hold dear.
