The Story

Encierro is a deeply personal project for me, born from my passion for horror and my commitment to telling stories that reflect the complexities of cultural identity. As a Latina filmmaker, I’ve always sought to explore narratives that challenge conventional perspectives and highlight the diverse experiences of women.
This film is my way of delving into the abstract and often invisible forces that shape our lives, using surreal and Giallo-inspired elements to bring these themes to life. My goal is to create a visually striking and emotionally resonant experience that not only entertains but also sparks meaningful conversations about identity and freedom. With Encierro, I hope to push the boundaries of genre storytelling and contribute to a more inclusive and representative film industry.
Encierro aims to confront and unravel the societal and cultural pressures faced by Hispanic women through a lens of psychological horror and surrealism. Our mission is to illuminate the often-unseen forces that confine and constrain individuals, using striking Giallo-inspired visuals and innovative storytelling.

By amplifying women’s voices and experiences, Encierro seeks to challenge traditional narratives, provoke thought, and foster a deeper understanding of the complexities of identity and societal expectations.
Encierro delves into the societal and cultural constraints that Hispanic women face, using the power of storytelling to shine a light on the often unseen and unspoken pressures that shape their identities. Through a series of eerie and unsettling scenarios, this film aims to capture the psychological and emotional challenges imposed by these metaphorical and literal "boxes." By integrating elements of horror and the supernatural, Encierro will amplify the surreal and confining nature of these societal expectations.

The film will explore themes of identity, freedom, and self-expression, challenging the traditional norms that confine women to predetermined roles. Ultimately, the goal is to provoke thought and discussion, encouraging audiences to reflect on the cultural boxes they may themselves uphold or inhabit. By presenting these issues in a visually compelling and haunting manner, our team hopes to create a narrative that resonates with viewers and fosters a deeper understanding of the struggles faced by Hispanic women in society.

My mood board for Encierro draws heavily from the visually stunning styles of Suspiria and Poor Things, blending eerie, surreal imagery with bold color palettes to create a distinct and immersive world.

From Suspiria, I’ve drawn inspiration from its Giallo roots—particularly its use of striking reds, blues, and greens to convey an atmosphere of dread and unease. The exaggerated colors not only heighten tension but also evoke a dreamlike quality, perfectly aligning with the surreal elements in Encierro. The film’s ability to combine horror with artful visuals is a guiding influence on the mood and tone I want to achieve.

By pulling from these films, the mood board shapes a cohesive visual identity that sets Encierro apart—blending vibrant, high-contrast color schemes with unsettling, atmospheric design. These influences guide everything from lighting choices to set dressing, helping us build a world that feels both familiar and disturbingly unreal. We're currently deep in pre-production for Encierro, a film that means so much to me and the team.

With your support, we’ll be able to cover crucial costs like location, cast, and production design to make this project a reality. Your backing will allow us to move forward with shooting in February, ensuring we bring our bold, colorful vision to life. After post-production, Encierro will be submitted to film festivals, with the goal of a wider release so that as many people as possible can see the film.
When we surpass 100% funding, we’ll use the additional funds to enhance the film’s production value, allowing for even more stunning visuals and sound. We also would be able to pay our amazing crew what they deserve. Our dream is to share this project on an even larger scale, so stretch goals would help us extend our marketing and distribution to reach a wider audience.

He’s a mysterious and foreboding figure, always lurking in the background, yet never fully revealed. His presence grows more menacing as Julia’s internal conflict intensifies, symbolizing the inescapable pressures that try to control and confine her.
