Mission Statement
The Story
Everything Is is a coming of age story about brotherhood. Having a brother is one of the most unique and fulfilling relationships that a person can have. That's the guy who is your built in best friend, the person you can go to when things get hard, a relationship that is often taken for granted. I know a lot of people who grew up with their brother wish they realized what they had when they did. This story is about that.
"Everything Is" follows the story of two brothers, Paul and Peter, on their journey as they run away from home to escape their abusive father. During their journey Paul struggles with the weight of hiding the extent of the abuse he experienced, to protect his younger brother. Along the way Paul tries to write a letter to his mom, who ran out on them when they were young.
Throughout the story Paul struggles with OCD, particularly compulsive and repetitive hand washing. He struggles with this as well as the traumatized and isolated feelings caused by his parents. He's managed to hide the extent of the abuse he received at the hands of his father, but over the course of the story he struggles to maintain a strong front for his younger brother.
They get picked up by a truckdriver named Ennis, who Paul relates to heavily. Eventually Ennis betrays the boy's trust in a major way, and another betrayal at the hands of an adult sends Paul over the edge. Peter soon discovers what Paul has been doing to himself. After a much needed emotional cry for help, and an unfortunate injury follows, the boys can finally begin on the road to healing, having become closer in the end.
Everything Is is a student film currently in pre-production and will begin shooting in the fall.
Our crew is made up of talented and passionate film-makers who will no doubt work their hardest to make this film a reality!
This is my first ever short-film campaign, and the amount of love and effort being put into this film by my team is astounding! I have a lot of reasons to be making this film, but the piece of it that stands out to me is the aspect of brotherhood. I came up with the idea on one of the long drives between home and school. I realized that a chapter of my life has truly ended, the one where I wake up in the same room as my brother and we drive to school together, or play split screen videogames together on a Saturday. So I wrote a story where a character realizes what he has in a brother, a true friend for life.
I've struggled with OCD myself, which inspired me to add that to this story. I have never been a fan of how OCD is both underrepresented and misrepresented in media. It's often portrayed as more of a quirky personality trait, when in reality it is a serious, even debilitating disorder. I figured I'd take this opportunity to show it for what it is.
