The Story
TIME IS RUNNING OUT
Nate and Seb leave home on bad terms after being called away on a CIA mission to Mexico. While they are away a mysterious virus begins spreading across the United States at a rate far faster than anyone anticipated. The virus is erasing language itself. And as more people lose the ability to communicate, infrastructure fails and society begins to collapse.
NOT BUILT FOR THIS WORLD
Rose is a free spirited, retired art teacher and the heart of the family. Warm, eccentric, and quick witted; she is where Nate and Seb get their crude sense of humor. Her youngest son Riley is an artist like her, but physically weaker than his older brothers, and less prepared for the violence of the world around him. Together they must find a way to stay alive long enough for Nate and Seb to make it home.
Acute Linguistic Degeneration, or ALD, is a rapidly spreading disease that attacks the brain's ability to process and produce language. It affects everyone differently, causing varying degrees of aphasia; from difficulty finding words and forming sentences to complete loss of language.
No one knows exactly how it spreads, but it moves through populations with alarming speed and develops rapidly once contracted.
Nate and Seb need to get home to their dying mother, Rose, and teenage brother, Riley while they can still communicate. Riley is physically weaker and lacks the resilience that his brothers have; leaving him struggling to keep everything together as time runs out. Meanwhile, Tim acts out of fear, becoming increasingly primal as his ability to communicate disappears.
BEYOND THE GOAL
Films are expensive to make, and our goal is set at the absolute minimum needed to bring Fighting Words to life while paying our crew fairly. But this movie could be so much more with a bit more help. Added budget to the Fighting Words budget would mean being able to bring on Special Effects Makeup Artists, more elaborate set design, high detail in our wardrobe and uniforms, and the ability to bring on more crew for more days. Every dollar makes the world of difference in this dream that we're chasing!
