The Story
I don't care what they tell you. Romantic Comedies are awesome. Whether it's films like "10 Things I Hate About You", "Clueless," or the underrated classic that is "My Best Friend's Wedding" (What? I'm a 90's kid), these 80-90 minute films bring you to a world where that cute guy at the laundromat staring at you, is INTO YOU.
But not in a creepy way. He's awkward yet approachable, hot, and kind...and Im losing focus. Sorry.
Rom Coms are movies that can make you laugh and believe that LOVE is real, pure, and frustrating but satisfying all together in a sitting. That's magic, baby! In a world still reeling from a fucked up pandemic, we could use a lot of laughter and LOVE. More stories of people just trying to find something real. And speaking freely, friend, the modern dating pool sucks. There are very few meet-cutes at a bar and half of the time, it's the worst pickup line you've ever heard. Dating apps are more about promoting their social media count vs. going on dates. Dudes sharing the same generic pose while holding an abnormal-looking fish and girlies talking about being a passenger princess and asking what your favorite Taylor Swift song is ("I Don’t Wanna Live Forever" for those keeping track). Or worst, you meet someone and get stuck in a loveless relationship for years because the aforementioned dating pool is trash.
If only there were a system that you partake in that protects you from shitty partners and long, dragged-out relationships that go nowhere.
There's not.
You have to keep trying; eventually, the timing will be right. <3. That's what our main character should believe in. Instead, she's created a system with a dating profile that men have to check off and a time limit for dating. This is the story of how Gabi tries to find LOVE.
This is...
The story follows Gabriella "Gabi" Alvarez played by Francesca Idoyaga as she finds herself in a bit of a limbo in life. Her career hasn't gone exactly as she planned when she moved to the States, and her LOVE life is problematic, to say the least. So, she focuses on what she can control: finding that ever-elusive "THE ONE".
"MY CAREER MIGHT BE IN SHAMBLES, BUT MY LOVE LIFE WILL NOT BE."
She has a simple rule for dating:
Five months. If after five months she doesn't hear wedding bells ringing in her heart, she breaks it off. NO MATTER WHAT.
As you can imagine, setting an expiration date for any romance isn't exactly the way you should go about things. But that's for her to learn. Things get complicated when perennial playboy Luke Rodgers played by Joey Quinn, who has a shady past, enters her life. Just toxic souls finding LOVE.
What could possibly go wrong?

Orlando "OJ Reyes" Joubert Jr

Madison Hook
Co-Writer/Producer
A University of Pittsburgh graduate, is making her debut in feature film production with this project. She crossed paths with Orlando during their college years, introduced by a mutual friend. The film features a diverse group of hungry actors eager to make their name and bring their all to the film. After a long and intense casting process, we've assembled a great team. Hear from some of the cast below.

FIVE MONTH TRIAL is a story dedicated to the hopeless romantics, the casual lovers, and people in their 20s/30s who have no idea where life will take them. The film will explore the complexities of LOVE in all forms and the importance of growth while on that journey. Finding LOVE is so messy, and it's important that we show the realities and delusions of the process. The film is very likely to be Rated R and attract fans of films like 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall,' 'Palm Springs' and TV shows like 'Master of None' and 'Fleabag.'
The film draws heavy inspiration from the Rated R comedies of the 2000s and 2010s—you know the ones I'm talking about: "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," "I Love You Man," "Knocked Up," "Friends With Benefits," or was it called "No Strings Attached."
They utilized dramatic lighting as opposed to high-key lighting in their films. That's why this crowdfunding effort is so crucial—to ensure we can provide the necessary tools to achieve studio-level aesthetics on a teeny-tiny budget.

How We'll Do It
Our primary focus for the $20,000 budget lies in hiring a dedicated and skilled crew, as they are crucial to the success of every production, ensuring that our movie achieves exceptional visual and sound quality. While we are fortunate to own essential equipment such as lighting kits, lenses, microphones, cameras, and monitors, it is essential to compensate our crew properly for their hard work, even if we receive discounted rates.
A significant portion of our budget will be allocated to securing suitable locations. Although we have the support of friends and family offering spaces in throughout the tri-state area, we will also need to rent specific locations from platforms like AIRBNB and PEERSPACE, ensuring that we have the necessary permissions to film.
Catering is another essential aspect for us. To support our dedicated crew working long hours, we aim to provide them with healthy, hot, and delicious food to maintain their energy levels and morale.
Furthermore, a substantial part of our budget will go to our art department, covering expenses for props, production design, and set dressing. Our ultimate goal is to create a visually appealing and immersive environment for our characters, ensuring that the mise en scène feels lived-in and authentic.
Yeah my college professor would be proud of that last sentence.
Seed & Spark requires that we raise at least 80% of our goal for the project to be funded. We must reach this goal in 45 days or we won't receive anything! Your contribution is crucial to our project. With your support, we have the potential to make the best version of this film while paying our fantastic team fair wages! Now Post WGA and SAG strikes - supporting independent films is more important than ever!
